uh oh Leaking Rear Diff
Right
Need a bit of advice before i add to dealer list.
noticed yesterday evening oil on the drive (don't normally see house in daylight )
A quick bit of investigation revealed the lower half of the rear diff was all shiny with oil forming droplets off the lowest point (I removed teh spare wheel and looked from the rear of the vehicle). The "wet" area extended out onto the shafts running from the diff so I assume it is being sprayed around.
I have not noticed any more noise or anything, is this a normal occirence?
I have done a quick bit of searching but couldn't tie it down although I seem to rember RLD ( ) had an issue witha rear diff?
Many thanks

I had a diff and offside prop replaced in February due to oil leaking from the diff. Get it in soon and ask them to check for signs of wear ...they failed to rectify mine satisfactorily and the diff eventually went into meltdown. Other symptoms may develop like a whistling sound from the middle of the motor when under throttle. 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Basically, between 1500 and 2000 revs in any gear 3rd or above it was like someone sat in the back seat whistling dixie...that got progressively louder as the weeks went on ....after a trip to Boughrood in early Feb the whistle was replaced by a grinding and when I got home 160 miles later the diff ran into the gutter 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021
