OIL PUMP CHANGE WITH CAMBELT

Done to death I know - but out of 4 indies and an LR agent I have spoken to none of them have experienced the oil pump housing failure after the cam belt change.
Is it established now without a doubt that the oil pump design of the 07/08 model is at fault?
British 4x4 in Cape Town say they have never heard of such a thing - they do change the water pump however. Another indie in CT says he has never had an oil pump failure but changes it anyway due to the comments on the forum.
What is the consensus at the moment?

It's a difficult one but some have failed and been reported on here. I had mine changed a couple of months ago with the timing belts. It's a personal choice but it would have been nagging me every time I was driving the car. Mine was a 07 so it's entirely personal choice. But I am gals I had it done. It cost around an extra 300 pounds so worth I to me as engines are difficult to get hold of

Hi WILLF,
If you look at the modified design of the oil pump housing, I think that it is an easy decision to change with the cambelt.

Best Wishes,

Thanks guys, I will check to see which oil pump I have. I will change the water pump housing though.
Thumbs Up

I have a 59 plate and had my cam belt changed as I bought the car a week ago, I am fairly sure that the oil pump would not have be done. Could anyone tell me if my age has a better designed/updated housing or should I have a chat with garage??

Is it something landrover advise to be done and I could go down that route?....

Bow down

I think you might be okay with a 59 plate but just check there is more detail on this on other pages. Landrover did not advise it to be done and most dealers will say they are not aware of any problems.

Hi Marlou,
Further to Sean's post, most oil pump housing failures are with the MY2007 and some MY2008 D3s. As yours is newer than that, I wouldn't expect it needs changing with the cambelt.

Best Wishes,
Peter

Are you not meaning the water outlet assembly? This definitely does fail and can lead to catastrophic engine failure (I believe). The aforementioned is fairly cheap to replace and my Indy (had mine done today at LR Service Center in Southfield for R798.00) stated they've seen four vehicles where this failed...

I stand corrected, seems like the oil pump housing can also be a problem as per the following thread:

Its probably worth checking that you have the latest design fitted...
