MY2014 - Land Rover letting us down? |
|
Just ordered a 2014MY D4HSE - is it just me or is Land Rover taking us a bit for granted with the lack of DETAILED information available to dealers and customers? No configurator on website, no brochures, no guides to colour ways, challenging delivery dates and no response to a dealer enquiry regarding a confusing MY2014 price list with regard to the Hybrid TV option on an XS.
With a patient and helpful dealer, I've worked through it and now invested my £50k+ and am looking forward to taking delivery in March. General buying experience poor though - any others experienced similar?? Going...2008 Black D3 HSE, TV, Towpack, Adaptive, much loved family car
Coming...2014MY Firenze D4 HSE, Ivory/Black interior, Hybrid TV, tow pack, adaptive lights, privacy glass

Firstly, welcome!
As to the buying experience, yep, it can be a tad unwieldy and really not what you might expect of a premium brand...
I think the problem can be made even worse if you have an uncaring or disinterested dealer and it sounds as if you have resolved your ordering issues. Our local dealer is hideous to the extent that I have tried to order 2 Discovery Commercials and 2 x Freelander 2's and walked away on each occasion.
They have been superb on the servicing for each but I suppose the crux of the issue is that LR still got the order despite a lackadaisical approach by the local dealer.
I suspect some of the issues arise when your request, whilst clear to you, falls outside their perception of 'normal' and this may have been the issue with TV in an XS - I don't have my printed price list to hand so can't really add more at this stage!
Anyhow, good luck and hope all goes well for the March delivery... D4 Commercial - 65 Plate, 2016MY
D5 Commercial - Handed back when I left that job…
D4 Commercial (2014MY) - gone
D4 Commercial SDV6 - Baltic Blue (also gone)
D1 300TDi... 2" lift, HD bumpers (both), detachable tow hitch, 9,500lb winch, 235/85/16 muds and plenty of other toys (gone to make way for the next toy...)
Smiles per Mile - Tornado Motorsports caged Evo 3... 100" Defender look-alike, with Range Rover running gear - all fully IVA'd and registered!

People buy people. It depends on the individual sales person in my experience. The guy I'm dealing with at Guy Salmon Bristol (and the Sales Manager) have been good so far. Jeremy at Hadley Green ditto. Stratstone Cardiff unspeakably bad
LR generally seems disorganised and complacent but, as their products are selling themselves (owing to a combination of their design and function but, equally, because of an absence of a credible alternative from the other manufacturers) I don't see them changing any time soon.
I agree, when you launch a new product (even if 'only' a facelift) your web strategy, brochures, dealer information should be slick, consistent and timed to coincide with the launch date. LR's was not, which is shoddy. I hope the same lack of attention to detail doesn't inform their build and quality control processes.
I too have an HSE on order and am looking forward to it when it eventually arrives. It ought not to be too much to ask that it functions as intended for the first 3 years or so.
This forum is excellent and contains many enthusiasts far more mechanically adept than me. However, it does also contain a fair proportion of LR apologists who seem (to me at least) to be too willing to accept build faults and failures that ought really not to be accepted in vehicles of this price in 2013. Or am I being unrealistic?

I think the word you are looking for is "realist" actually 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

No, I think I had it right the first time. If the response of one of the site moderators (who has averaged over 10 posts a day since 2005 ) to owners' concerns is one of boredom/resignation/seen if all before that smacks to me of the same attitude exhibited by Apple fanboys. Good luck with the status quo

You know nothing about me chap. You said "discuss" and I'm afraid after reading your post was all I could muster ...so jog on to Utopian car heaven. Sorry to disappoint 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

That's right , I know nothing about you other than your responses here (including the liberal use of trite emoticons - if they are all you can 'muster ' perhaps it's better not to engage at all?). Clearly some have higher standards and expectations than others. I don't think expecting product and customer service standards commensurate with a brand's pricing and (its own publicised) brand values is an unrealistic expectation and certainly not Utopian car heaven (whatever that is supposed to mean). As I said previously, enjoy the status quo

I agree that LR desperately need to shake up their support services and dealerships. It shouldn't be a lottery when going to buy a new or approved used car, but in my experience LR have the best and worst dealers. That said, I accept DG and others have more experience of other marques. I'm not a typical buyer and have only bought from volvo outside LR. They were great. No idea about others like BMW or Merc. I would sort of hope premium brands like Mercedes are very good. PAGODA

There was a PDF knocking about a couple of months back which gave fairly detailed information about changes from the D4 to the Discovery model but don't have a copy. If it was me I would choose the highest spec, tick all the options and then pick the colour I like the best - job done.
PS - don't pick on DG he can't help it.
