Warranty Direct and service records? How fussy are they?

Hi all, I have enquired, online, about a warranty for the D3 from Warranty Direct but decided it was a bit too expensive and left it. They rang me this morning and were keen to do a "deal". They have reduced the premiums and offered an upgrade to a "better" level of cover........ just wondering if anyone else has dealt with them and how far you can push them for a better "deal"?

Also - the vehicle is 2007 and had had all the servicing done based on mileage ie it has 3 stamps in the book after 34K but it looks like the servicing schedule is 15K or 12 months whichever is the sooner - therefore technically it should have 6 stamps. Is this likely to be a problem or invalidate the cover?

Any other warranty Direct comments/experiences welcome.

I'm sure that when I made a claim, they were only interested in the evidence of the last service (copy of invoice) and current MOT.

Thumbs Up

Hi farmerboy - would be interested in hearing what the 'deal' they offered you was? I called them and had very many phones calls back from them back in August, but the deal they were offering was just too expensive IMO (wear and tear & Betterment was a big stumbling block as well for us)

So if they are looking for new business, perhaps it's time to give them a call again......

As mc sez, copy/emailed pdf of last service & mot only. They're not interested in the service book at all. Last service should be within miles (15k) or months (12) or they'll reject the claim.

Thanks all - they are supposed to be sending me an email with the details - will post when it arrives but basically it was about £30 less for the next best cover, plus something else about emissions?

What is "betterment"?

'Betterment' is that you shouldn't gain from a claim or situation; ie the vehicle/insured risk should be returned to a similar state to that which existed prior to the incident.

So far as vehicles are concerned it usually means (for example) that the same spec parts should be fitted, not the next model up (ie no upgrtade of parts). Thumbs Up

If Warranty Directs case, it means betterment is a % off the parts cost depending on the mileage you have done. For example if you have done 90k miles and they fit a brand new engine, your car is now worth more. You can pay a small additional premium and have this removed, so if your at 60k miles of more it's worth having this removed or you could end up with quite a large bill if you need a big repair.

It cost me £50/year ISTR to have it removed but it put the policy from 12 to 13 months. No brainer for me and deffo worth getting as now up at 110k miles. Mr. Green

They didn't give me an option of paying more to have the betterment removed, I'm on 107k miles but they won't give me better than 50% on parts, may have to give them a ring Smile

Update....
The warranty direct docs arrived this morning and after a careful read it was clear that it was not as good a deal as I thought. Not much (nothing relating to wear and tear!) is covered for the first 3 months and after that any claim is reduced due to the age of the car (over 6 yrs ) despite the low mileage (34K).

Also a call to Stratstone (needed a VAT receipt for the servicing) - did not fill me with confidence (20 min call and still they could not give me a price for the 105K service plus oil pump casing change) - they wanted @£1000 just for the 105K service and new nothing about the "offer" until I pointed out that it was on their website. (ends in Feb by the way) - so decided to cancel the warranty direct policy (within cooling off period - no problems) and enlist the services of "Flack" for all servicing.

ps... drove the car up to Blackpool last night and was very impressed with it. It is SO smooth compared to my old Disco2 and ran like a dream.
