Possible Brisbane Easter day trip |
|
Hi all,
I'm thinking of taking a trip on Easter Saturday (yes, next Saturday) to Mt. Mee. I'm going to follow the Dirty Weekends route.
Anybody interested? Should be non-damaging and easy for less experienced drivers. Start will be about 45 minutes out of Brisbane and we should be back mid-afternoon. As we are never far from civilisation leaving early or taking detours around parts you don't want to do is easy.
The only downside is that this is state forest, so you need a permit.
There are details here: http://www.epa.qld.gov.au/projects/park/index.cgi?parkid=63
And the form for the permit is here: http://www.epa.qld.gov.au/publications?id=1812
If you don't have a permit, they must complete it and deliver or post to Ann St. They post the permit back. You can no longer collect them in person. This means that if you don't have one, you are likely out of luck. But you should apply now as they are free & valid until your rego expires and you can use it for the next trip.
I'm not expecting huge numbers, so I'm not going to create a sign up form. Just PM me if you are interested.
Leaving Petrie at 9, so meet at 8:30 to have time to grab a coffee.
Cheers, Steve

Hi there.. love to come with you but have my day planned for me
You no longer need permits for the state forests.
I rang them today and they confirmed that they are no longer issueing them.
They said that the signs will eventually be replaced.
Enjoy your trip.
Cheers

Sorry Steve, much as I would love to go on the trip I am protected by a previous engagement. But after Easter I would like to join an (what's group of D3s?) excursion in the dry brown land we call SE Qld (whilst hoping for real rain).
Have fun anyway...

OK, there is interest in a trip, but 5 days notice is not enough - I can understand that.
How about we pick another date? I can do Wednesday 25th April (Anzac day) or Saturday 12th May. Or later if needs be.
Cheers, Steve

Hi Steve, most of my Saturdays are out unfortunately, and ANZAC is not good as I have a committment in the morning with a parade.
But I will try to negotiate with SWIIBTO (she who it is best to obey) about Saturdays...
Thanks for trying to put something together and I will try to join when possible. Mt Mee is a fantastic area and I would love to venture there in the D3.

Interesting, I've just called parks & wildlife on 07 3227 8185 and been told that permits to traverse are no longer required and that they are in the process of pulling down the signs.
I guess the various websites saying you need a permit as also being updated.
Thanks for the heads up.
