Welcome to the NEWEST D3 in Mudgee |
|
Well, I picked it up y/day
The Atacama Sand colour is very nice
It has a chameleon like change to it's hue depending on the way the light strikes it
SILLY ME! I had thought that Aussie spec SEs had the centre screen (but as I hadnt specified sat nav it doesnt) BUT, on reflection it now allows me to put one of my own choice in there
I also should have got the rubber mats for the foot wells (got one for the load space though) rather than the carpet BUT they do look nice with a lovely logo on them
Noted on pick up that the passenger side fron door seal was torn (slightly) BUT this will be replaced at first service
Also found that onr of the plastic retainers for the rear passanger mats (which are mounted under the carpet and come up through a hole to lock the mats in place) was snapped off (also to be fixed at first service).
so some questions:
1. Has anyone had the paint and leather protection done? it is $1095 and ?guaranteed/lasts for 7 years.
2. Has anyone used the 3M/carskins (or similar) vinyl films (1-3mm thick) that are specifically made for the car to protect bonnet front, lights, grill, etc?
3. What have others used to protect the seats from the rubbing of plastic kids seats (I have three)? Just a blanket/mat or the cheap rear seat covers you see in auto shops?
4. When will the grin diminish so I don't look so silly when trying to speak to people? regards
Peter

Congratulations are in order.
Some answers to your questions:
1. Has anyone had the paint and leather protection done? it is $1095 and ?guaranteed/lasts for 7 years.
Ans: No I haven't had this and it seems mighty expensive to me. I use Meguires leather conditoner/cleaner on the seats ($20 per bottle) every 3 or 4 months. My paint is waxed with Meguires Gold Class and is full of bush scratches.
2. Has anyone used the 3M/carskins (or similar) vinyl films (1-3mm thick) that are specifically made for the car to protect bonnet front, lights, grill, etc?
Ans: I've done 46K with a fair amount of country driving and I only have the plastic light covers (crappy design) and the stone chips seem to be very very minor. Either I'm lucky or the D3 is relatively high off the ground so it doesn't get sand blasted by cars. Some others would have a different view on this but I wouldn't bother with films.
3. What have others used to protect the seats from the rubbing of plastic kids seats (I have three)? Just a blanket/mat or the cheap rear seat covers you see in auto shops?
Ans: I have the same issue as you but only one car seat. I cover the middle row with 3 big bath towels to stop any dirty shoes going on the leather. The leather seats are in perfect condition still. Nothing covers the back rest part of the seat and the foam with material cover car seat rests on the leather and there are no marks on the leather.
4. When will the grin diminish so I don't look so silly when trying to speak to people?
Ans: never.

Re the plastic covers. It is a good idea to fit the headlight covers, (they are crappily made), but forget about the bonnet cover. It is absoulute rubbish, not made properly and fair dinkum it sets up a noise at above 40km as loud as an aboriginal bull roarer. I complained about mine and the friendly dealer (your dealer) was going to look into it. Guess what?? It didn't happen. By the way it also cracked in half as well. I had them on my D2s and they were fine. The reason these don't work is that the underneath edge is not curved like the earlier ones, just a straight edge, so they whip when going over about the 40km. Luckily, I had them included in my deal, (just as I was ready to sign up).
The headlight covers can save your lights on occasions, but they are an awful fit. 2006 HSE TDV6 Bonatti Grey, ECB bull bar, tropical roof, LG Next G car kit, Tom Tom GPS, UHF, Mitchell Bros tow bar, Kimberley Kamper Limited Edition camper trailer and 23 foot Haines Signature half cabin (Towed separately!)

Don't get the cheap headlight covers unless you can get LR to fix the method of fixing them to the the D3. I have lost mine, they just fell off.
If you fit an ARD bullbar the top rail will protect the bonnet. 06 TDV6 SE with many LR and after-market extras. Used only on weekends and trips out west.
