2014MY HSE - another one in Corris Grey
I picked this up from Guy Salmon Bristol yesterday, having ordered early Sept. In the short time I've had it (in the dark - it's now in a station car park until tomorrow afternoon - fitted the spare wheel protector at 0630 today in the rain ) I've been very pleased. Couple of observations:
1. I agree with others who've posted about the brightness of the 'start/stop off' warning light in the dash. Not only is it bright but there is 'light leak' from the warning graphic which is a bit naff. System seems to work ok though
2. Glad to have rear a/c available again
3. The upgraded Meridian stereo is impressive from some poor sources - look forward trying with some high quality inputs
4. Shame the climate digital temperature displays are still taken from a 1980's Casio calculator!
5. Very smooth and insulating from the outside world
Thanks to Mark Robbins at Guy Salmon who was very helpful throughout and got me a good deal.
Ps interestingly, Black Horse Finance are now doing the LR Freedom finance which has resulted in higher guaranteed minimum values. When I got the quote in Sept a residual of £18500 was shown after 4 years/40k. This has now risen to £22,500, which is helpful

Are you liking it then?
You went for rear climate...is it any use? I never gave it any thought if im honest
Stop start is useless ive concluded and I just turn it off every journey (if I remember), I am liking the meridian system - it is good.Mike

Yes, it's excellent thanks.
I had the rear a/c in one of the V8s I had and it had a lot of use when the car was fully loaded with 4 kids. Shame they didn't reinstate the middle and third row audio controls/headphone sockets at the same time.
Jury's out for me on the stop/start. If you're gentle on the brake in very slow but still moving traffic it is fine and doesn't cut in. However, manoeuvring when parking is a pain and it needs turning off then. I presume it's the same implementation as the RRS?
The one thing I did notice (and maybe it's because it's new) is that there's more engine braking when coasting at, say, 40/50mph with no brake or throttle - it slows more quickly than either of the V8s I've had, which was a slight surprise. But, minor really. Maybe everything was just loose on them. I like the weight and feeling of solidity you get with a discovery and, having had another good nose around the other stuff yesterday whilst waiting in the showroom, I think it's still the best all-round compromise vehicle where 7 seats are needed.
On another note, £2.5k for 'auto deploy' RRS steps - FFS

Its difficult for me to compare the last 2 sports to this, especially as its new. They are too different, ive noticed some more body roll (to be expected) but the engine does seem to be more (in a good way) tight and noise levels down. It also seems a little nippier (although im bedding it in so revs are kept way down!!)
Good point about rear climate for the dogs (although they didn't complain in the sport which didn't have it as an option...maybe it was because they were in a range rover ). They will have to go on without it.
Some prices are funny - I could believe (but couldn't also) unless ive not found them, that it comes with the roof rails but not the cross bars (go on, correct me)!Mike
