I took delivery of my D3 on Saturday and think it's great, however the voice recognition is poor with 60-70% of commands missed. Amusing for a while when new, but frustrating after a while.Serial Depreciation Victim

Well, the odd thing is that my last LR3 (04 model, the one I just traded in) was fine. This one is horrible and misses half the commands - yes, even after I just switched to UK English/lady. This must be a malfunction of some sort (and yes I have given it time to get used to my voice - no difference)
I had the same trouble and found that the voice settings were on american. Reset to UK and everything is now fine.

When I use my voice recognition (usually to impress friends with the Disco's gadgetry) The nice Sat Nav lady usually tries to direct me to the 'airport'. She seems to prefer the male voice, because the other half never has that problem.

I have seeeeeen the light!
Re-awaking this thread as I have an update...
I too have suffered with the voice recognition ignoring me. My settings are all set to English (real, not American ) so I got the snotty "Sorry" most of the time. Enough of the time never to get the command recognised and the "yes" recognised in the same command. Result; misery.
Then by experimenting I found a work around; I found that by raising the pitch of my voice (I remembered back to being kicked in the walnuts when playing rugby for inspiration) I could get near to 9 successful commands in 10; but only as long as I ommitted the word "phone", which always failed.
Now I have new news. Snotty lady is snotty because apparently I'm shouting at her. It's not intentional, but I do raise my voice slightly when giving the commands, especially so when having to repeat them 'cos she's getting snotty. This is a catch 22.
Instead, try lowering the volume of your voice. Not whispering, but imagine talking quietly, like when you're having phone sex in a public library
I found a volume of about half my normal talking level (and I'm considered a quiet talker anyway) works best for me; though I do have to raise it slightly above this if it's raining hard or snotty lady re-visits.
So far, I have had 99.99% success from this approach, even with the word "phone", and have been practicising chatting with the newly available helpful lady to do all sorts of things from "cd play disc 3" to "navigation show dual map".
Because I'm no longer raising my voice, I no longer have to suffer the stressful mimickry from the back seats of daddy repeatedly shouting "phone dial name" louder and louder, as they can no longer hear me giving the commands over the normal road noise.
Hope this helps. Go forth......but quietly!Dr. Ian Malcolm:

Transgenic tomato anyone?
Ah - there's actually an official Land Rover accessory to solve this problem. Next time you are at an LRE centre pop in and buy one of their nice Buff scarves. S & SE drivers can just wear it as a stylish neck warmer but HSE drivers should roll it up over their mouth. I've just done an experiment and, according to my B&K digital level meter, it reduces the level of my voice by 4 dBC.
Hey, Martin - there's a Shop opportunity: a D3 Buff...

Would one of these be OK?

That's what has always worked for me as well. Don't yell, talk in a normal conversational voice. Works 90-95% of the time. If the AC is blasting though, forget it.
