That'd be a deal breaker for me - it is the ability to be both family and work vehicle that has meant the D3 and D4 are so perfect for us - to do the latter a flat floor is imperative.

That seat mechanism differs from what I saw in the flesh, there is a handles (similar to manual front seats in D3) that allowed th middle row to be slid forwards to allow access to the 3rd row. Maybe that image is preproduction or maybe the middle row seats have a configurable option. I definitely saw all 5 seats folded flat!
I'd go back and take another look but all the JLR cars have been moved off site now.

That picture is of a cutaway demo vehicle.

Maybe they made a mess of putting it together (it is LR after all) and didnt put the seats together properly so they dont fold quite flat?

How much space do the rear seats need to fold forwards for third row access? Looks like it'd be a bit tight with the front seats back.

Went to the factory tour today. The seats have two "fold" positions, the first is not quite flat but protects the leather from creasing by not compressing the cushions too hard, and then by pressing the two buttons together in the boot, they do fold completely flat.

When we had a play at the weekend, we found rearmost access pretty tight. It's ok if you're reasonably mobile though. To say it's a bigger vehicle, it didn't seem huge inside but leg room and shoulder room were all good throughout. Once everyone is seated I'm sure they would be comfortable for a long trip.

Thanks for that. So, if I understand correctly, you do have the option of folding the rear seats flat, with the only downside being damaging both the cushions and the leather in the process? That's got to make for the most aggravating warranty claim rejection in history: "Sorry to hear that the leather on your rear seats is all creased and that the cushions are all compressed and have lost their shape. Have you been folding your rear seats flat and using your car as an estate? Well, you've only got yourself to blame..."

Agreed. Good news they do go down but surely it's not designed to have two positions because the flat position damages the seats if used regularly ? Must be another reason Question

Or is it like the "occasional" use towbar where LR will give guidance that's as clear as mud but insist it's for occasional use only Laughing

I suspect Gerry Mcgovern doesn't like "his" cars being used for mundane stuff like carrying things.

I just want say that my D4 rear seats have crush indentations in the leather upholstery if I leave the rear seats folded flat for a period of time. They recover to normal after an hour or so.

Maybe this should be seen as a positive and not a negative?

^ I agree its an option for those who do not want the inevitable marks that compressing seat and seat back together will cause in D3/D4 & of course D5....

I think its a clever well thought out addition. Thumbs Up
