It would indeed be great if people could move on and leave out the damning of Land Rover and just post informative and constructive comments about the car. IMHO of course
...
.....of course we are going to make comparisons, observations & comments thats one of the purposes of this forum.
Damning LR - well they are there as a UK operation that is an example to others as to operate a business - the products we can look, choose & possibly buy.
Personally I have had Discos since 1998 with Disco 1's, Disco 2's Disco 3's (& a Freelander 2 plus a couple of Jags) so can't be blamed for saying one thing & voting with my wallet another way...with another maker
Disco 1 was bought as SWMBO'd had a 100 mile commute to work & 100 miles back across badly kept B roads in winter conditions...moving from Volvo 240's, 760's (bad choice) & a Beemer 525 (with a sick gearbox that BM couldn't fix despite it was a demo vehicle & under warranty). Capability, safety, comfort & practicality way above "how it looks", "its dated" "its too boxy" considerations.
Over 18 years the larger (than saloon car car based estates) size / practical shape has proven to be a critical piece of kit for work (moving equipment around), many long family trips (to ski on the continent - 5 up), runs to & from Universities & daughters abodes with ridiculous amount of "tat" to move & at home moving materials for our home (listed building restoration - still ongoing).
The Disco 3 has proven to deliver everything its vehicle launch credentials said it would.
The D5 Compromise vehicle doesn't suit me currently (& probably won't suit me anytime in the foreseeable future) as it just hasn't got the credentials for volume carrying capacity & has to be checked out as regards passenger comfort. My lot are realistic as regards what cars they have ridden in & comfort - never complained in the Disco 3.
Other peoples needs are just that....other peoples they make their choice, pay their money & either enjoy what they get or don't.
So its not moaning to make comment/s - its feedback that clearly wasn't a consideration in the step change of concept for the Disco 5, it only had to be an incremental change (as has happened with the XF, FFRR).
To me an end or an era with a vehicle that did a lot - D3 / 4's will become classic vehicles - sought after
Time will tell.BREXIT - done properly.
Right now ...We need Government - not Politics
Save the Dipstick Flagbearer-keep it simple, less likely to fail campaign-agenda items:Starting Handles, Acetylene Lamps.
Founder: Dipsticks-R-Us Inc
D3 HSE-perfectly formed, passenger friendly...has real DIPSTICK
Jag XK-but sadly no DIPSTICK...HUGE design fault
FL2 has DIPSTICK..."real comfort in rear seats"
VW Golf wondermobile (?)..has real DIPSTICK
Morris Minor..original DIPSTICK technology..and a real KEY.

Isn't it time for those people to move to Disco5.co.uk ? We don't usually come here to discuss the RRS and that's as different a car as the D5. These vehicles have very little in common with our classic Land Rovers !!!

To me on observations with front seats set accordingly with most sized adults makes 2nd seat and 3rd rows awkward as before i got shot down before the chap in rear most was complaining about foot space and headroom which was close to headlining as its now tapered down and not as before. But what do i know it's all about opinions.
As before i think engines are not refined enough looking at how audi & bmw have gone mpg/emissions is not good enough if you look at their 4x4s.
They need to up there game plan on engines and reliability.

I am not sure which date is correct, we were told that there would be no other D5's out before April other than the 600 first edition cars and the dealer demonstrator models. I have not had confirmation of my date yet but my sales man I on leave. We did however see some going down the production line but not sure what they were 1st edition or dealer carsMY17 D5 1st Edition Namib Orange

When I was up there , the chap who did the production line tour said that they had to produce a batch of cars for the press and they would be some of the first off the line after the demo cars.
Additionally, without prompting, the chap who did the 45 min theatre presentation said that after the First Edition run was complete, those orders in the Holding Pool would be batched up by type (HSE, SE, S) for production.
One of the presenters downstairs was of the opinion that first orders would be in the dealers in early March 17 but maybe he was telling me what I wanted to hear.
From reading the posts in this thread it would appear that each visit group were given a different story.
So the best guess is the best guess. No-one has a clue. Never take life too seriously. Nobody gets out alive anyway.

My Evoque was delayed and my DS was on time but quarantined at the dealers by LRs request due to a fault in the 2nd row seat fold mechanism. My Disco and Fl2s were all on schedule.
It's a new model so I expect a delay.23.5MY Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE D250 MHEV Pangea Green

I think this particular site actually transcends the Disco 3/4, all sorts of LR (and other manufacturers) owners on here now - veritable tumbleweed over on the disco5 site at the moSteve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)

I think it would be great if all of Martins sites had communal areas across them for subjects that are off topic, general and Brand related. It would be great to get everyone participating in discussions around landrover strategy and model lineup etc.MY06 S - Gone but not forgotten

Evening,
We currently have a D4 Hse which is coming up to 7 years next month, and plan to change to the D 5 next year.
From my brief look at Solihull/dealer day I personally like the look. Yes, the range is becoming a bit too similar but the way I view it, the disco sport was a copy of the vision concept, which is based on the D 5, so although the disco sport came out first, it's actually a copy of this car.
The 2nd row of seats...plenty of legroom for me and I'm 6ft3. However, the seat height is a different matter, as when I sit in the seat my kness are much higher than my hips, so the seat offers no support for my legs..the foot wells are much shallower than on the D4. Our kids are 9 and 7 so not much of a problem, but for those with older kids etc, something to check and be happy with.
Engine...bit miffed that with the price jumping that the 308bhp engine from the RRS not available. Told that that engine doesn't comply with emissions in all parts of the world so it wasn't made available for the D5....not sure I believe that but there you go. I can't fathom Land Rover releasing a new car with an old engine and then 6 months later put in the new engine...it's like a slap in the face for early adopters....BMW and Audi put their new engines in the new cars from the off....why can't Land Rover.
Delivery. As previously mentioned at Solihull we were told 1st editions in March, rest from April onwards. My dealer said Land Rover will ask for the 1st load of orders in December and give them their quota's so won't be till then that they get a better understanding of delivery times. He expected March for 1st edition but not to bet on it as and delays could push it back, and the rest in April/may.
He said LR has to make the pre production cars for testing, cars for the press, cars for the dealers and then the 1st editions...have to remember we get 600 1st editions, but other countries get their 1st editions too, so could be quite a few(unless he got that wrong and there are only 600 1st editions on a global basis)
Anyway, had a deposit for 3 years for this car...have a few weeks to decide if to go for it now, or wait for the new engines to be put in..if I read correctly the new V6 engines will have up to 400 bhp depending on which one to go for and up to 20% better fuel economy. Seeing as we plan on keeping this one fora other 5/7 years, prob best to wait, but I really don't want to
