I find it odd that for something that supposedly so "modern", the only designs to easy liken it to and from the '90's and 00's; long before the "old fashioned" D3/D4 even. Here's this old chestnut again...
Oddly, most other MPV's have moved the game on since then. Here's one we don't see in the UK (which is a bit of a shame):

I am getting worried about this obsession with bottoms!!
It may not have the presttiest bottom, but I can live with it.
The rest of the car is good and although yet to be proved it has as good if not better off road performance than a D4.

Personally I think the 9-5 and the Previa look much better (especially the Saab), as for me Discovery Sport Plus is so ugly due to the massive amount of metal underneath the rear lights.
It feels like they were told it needs to be big and then ran out of ideas as to how to disguise this, or make it look stylish, or interesting, or even pleasant.Andy
This works on a mid price range MOV but one can wonder what compromises were made in literally copying this to a premium brand SUV.....one with a pedigree & a proven capability.
No - this isn't going to grow on me as much as it's not going to alter or morph into something else before my (or anybody else's) eyes despite doing what LandRover do mid model life - muck about with lights or bits of trim....a cheap way of making it look a bit different without altering metal parts.
To me the statement "function dictates form" from J/LR...exemplifies the concept of LandRovers up till now as practical working vehicles that are all about being used (& used hard) first.......cat walk models second.....the fact it's the wrong shape for my uses as a load carrier, doesn't have the brilliant FFRR like split tail gate, is compromised rear seat wise for real life sized adults & horrendously expensive. Rule it out...now & for the foreseeable future. I will look at FFRR's maybe.....my needs may be different may be not.
I feel really sorry for those wanting & needing to buy a D5.....reading all the posts up to the first pictures, then the glimpse at the real thing....they are having to come to terms with aspiring to own what will be a flawed model design for J/LR.....I realise they need thier ego's boosting by others oooohing & aaaaaring about how nice it is....& the fact it's clearly not.....must be dissapointing to say the least.
The facts are none of us on here or anywhere else have to buy one....it isn't compulsory, has to be done or the only choice. To me J/LR have misjudged the situation of incrementally altering a really good product & step changed it into something different & not just the way it looks. Big Mistake.
Compounding this with not the full range of engines is inexcusable for J/LR as makers of excellent engines..."impoverishing the choice never improves the decision"BREXIT - done properly.
Right now ...We need Government - not Politics
Save the Dipstick Flagbearer-keep it simple, less likely to fail campaign-agenda items:Starting Handles, Acetylene Lamps.
Founder: Dipsticks-R-Us Inc
D3 HSE-perfectly formed, passenger friendly...has real DIPSTICK
Jag XK-but sadly no DIPSTICK...HUGE design fault
FL2 has DIPSTICK..."real comfort in rear seats"
VW Golf wondermobile (?)..has real DIPSTICK
Morris Minor..original DIPSTICK technology..and a real KEY.

Quite frankly I don't want or need your pity.
And I'm certainly not buying it to boost my ego, but it's interesting how many have bought D4s because they look like 4x4s yet don't actually use them as such, I suppose they want the Land Rover image.

I’m afraid, that’s how marketing works. You categorise your target audience and build something that appeals to the largest group. Clearly LR’s target customers are the well off wives of Russian gangsters who have short legs, 3+ kids, poor eyesight and no taste!

Shhhhhhhh, don't let the secret out. I only live a few miles from DG, not sure I could cope if he appeared behind me in mid gym session.
