My first 1,000 miles
I've had my new MY14 XS Firenze Red with Black Pack for just over a week and 1,000 miles now.
Fantastic car - the quietest car I've ever driven, and brilliant grunt for overtaking on the many tight A roads nearby. Still haven't had chance to go offroad yet... Will post pics when I've removed the layer of Sahara dust.
Now a few odd little questions...
-- I can't work out what headlights I have. The XS doesn't have LED/Xenons I think, but my car doesn't have a headlamp leveller control. This seems to be one of the areas that the handbook hasn't quite caught up with MY14 spec. I think it must be the "projector halogens" - can anyone elaborate exactly what that means and what kind of replacement bulb I would need?
-- I had from a mis-fitted battery box and grommets - and annoyingly managed to break one of the clips while trying to re-seat it properly (which I didn't manage). One for the dealer to fix I think - but pretty poor that every Discovery 4 seems to be leaving the factory and getting through PDI with this problem
-- One "interesting" incident on the M1 the other day - when the dashboard appeared to re-set itself as if you had just switched on the ignition. All of the warning lights appeared, the auto trip recorder reset, and then everything carried on as normal. I didn't lose engine power. Anyone else experienced this?
-- I noticed the engine bay seems *very* hot after a run, if you open the bonnet - particularly towards the bulkhead and above the air compressor - is that normal?
-- I'd love to get some kind of cover for the key to stop it getting scratched in my pocket when it's mixed up with my other keys. But the only thing I can find is cheap and nasty looking made-in-China jobs on eBay. Anyone found a better solution?
Thanks for your help!
Rob.

The entire car is the headlight leveller. 8)
Not sure about the hot engine bay as they run pretty cool; not sure about this 'air compressor' you mention either. Any chance you are talking about the FBH which is designed to produce heat to make up for the cool engine???
The waring lights are a bit of a concern.Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948

Hello.
Yes, our new my14 smells after a fastish run.
Yes, our battery box is broken after they forced it on with the misplaced grommets.
Other than that seems good.

Seems hottest at the rear of the engine bay, driver's side, where the black box is housing what looks to be the air suspension kit - though inside the box was cool enough. The FBH (diagonal opposite) also wasn't too hot. I guess it's just heat from the engine block?

Ok the black box on that side contains the ABS and the battery system for the stop/start plus a couple of sundries. The air suspension lives under the car along the chassis rail.

Ah OK - just saw the high-pressure pipes and "assumed". I didn't spot another battery there though - there did seem to be two in the nearside box when I had a (very quick) look there.
Really need to poke around a bit more under the hood and find my way around.

Rob, what about a simple leather pouch for the key?

Small leather pouch for the smart key would be ideal - just need to find one!

I have the MY11 with the chunky keyfob but just use a plastic coin bag from the bank to keep it free of muck, damp etc. In fact one of the coin bags also keeps my battery box dry for the outside tree lights. Good job I liberated a few dozen before I retired from the bank 2010 MX-5 2.0 Sport Tech PRHT
