Uneven tyre wear
Just passed 10k from new on original set of Pirelli zeros. I was shocked to find when I had a flat tyre today, the inner third of both rears have worn down to 50%. They are both showing a ramped, sawtooth wear pattern. Pressures all OK and fronts seem to have very little but even wear.
Could someone give me a tip on how to approach the dealer on this matter. Obviously a tracking job is needed, but who picks up the bill in a few months time for the new rear tyres I will need ?
I read some owners have had replacements under warranty, but I don't know how bad their tyres were wearing out
Thanks,
Nick

On my D3 it was the front tyres that were damaged (5mm on outside edge and 2mm on inside edge). I have done just under 9k miles and my dealer (I also called LRCS about this) arranged for the front tyres to be replaced under warranty as the problem had been caused by incorect geometry settings. Both rears have 5mm all the way across the tyres. Just noticed your in Chesterfield, like me. Do you use Gordon Lamb?1996 Discovery 1 300TDI ES Biarritz Blue, sold

Hi woody179, yes dealer is Gordon Lamb. Looks like a visit is needed.
Did you find out how much your tracking was out by ?
I assume they do it on site, thats if they have an alignment jig for disco 3 rear end?

They do the alignment (all 4 wheels) on site, but they had to have my car all day (I believe that 4 wheel alignment takes some time). I don't know how much the alignment was out by at 5k miles, I seem to remember them telling me it was out quite a bit on one wheel. When they checked the alignment again before ordering the two new tyres they said it was okay, but when they replaced the tyres they altered the alignment again 1996 Discovery 1 300TDI ES Biarritz Blue, sold

Get your local tyre shop to carry out a report on all four tyres, take pictures of worn tyres then approach LR.
I had all four replaced @ 22,000 miles and after LR checked the tracking they paid out half for the rears HSE TDV6 Silver : "Avin it large"

You did'nt like my aprouch then Nick HSE TDV6 Silver : "Avin it large"
There's a TSB covering a range of vehicles with 5Axxxx VINs, however the suspension settling on the rear seems to be a more widespread problem. Mine is an 06 car (6Axxxx) and went in to the dealers yesterday. The alignment was reset under warranty and LR are currently working out what contribution they will offer towards the prematurely worn tyres. I should hear later today or tomorrow.
LRUK seem to be applying a 15,000 mile limit on making contributions based on what the dealer told me yesterday. Luckily I booked mine in when it was just under this mileage. Some people have had success with much higher mileages though. With your mileage you'll have no problem getting your dealer to reset the suspension alignment and they will advise on the best course of action re. the tyres.I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.
Update: Land Rover have offered £250 to pay for the rear tyres on my D3. Now where's Nick's number, I need a High Level air intake 8)I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

I had the very same problem with my first D3, November 04 TDV6 S. People who had followed me commented on how the rear wheels tipped in at the top and it wasn't until I looked closer that I realised the inner 70mm of both rear tyres were down to the canvas! Landrover reset the wheel pitch and fitted 2 new tyres F.O.C. Therefore, they were aware of this problem very early on!27.2 mpg combined...... my a**e!
My Disco is currently in dry dock whilst LR decide whether or not to contribute towards replacement tyres.. Car in for 30k service.. inner walls of both rear tyres worn down to canvas... Down to a suspension arm bush problem that LR know about. Car has been off road for 4 days now.. Suspension arms and bushes to be replaced under warranty. Only replaced o/s/r last year, but so far LR have said that they wont replace tyres because vehicle has done over 20k miles. Tyres would have been good for some time if not for the damage caused by bushes failing. Should find out tomorrow
p.s. There is a second light bulb in the o/s/f side light... if this is a parking light, how do I switch it on? I've tried the usual thing with the indicator with no luck As you slide down the banister of life

Thanks for that... but I recently drove a new Disco at the Land Rover Experience Centre in Snowdonia that had adaptive headlamps... it had a 'warning' light on the dash when you turned on the ignition. Mine doesn't do that... and why do I only have an extra bulb in the off side? Still confused!!As you slide down the banister of life

Did you buy the car new? if not, maybe the previous owner has replaced a headlamp with an adaptive. They do come up on ebay.
