SE 18" alloys - anyone else want a second spare? |
|
I know some of you AU guys have recommended using a replacement 17" rims and Cooper tyres or similar, but I think I have decided to stick to the 18" wheels with 255/60R18 tyres when my D3 arrives. Partly the decision was made because Coopers and Mickey Thompson (and some others) are indicating that they will have LT all terrain tyres in appropriate sizes by about the time I wear out the Goodyear originals.
I intend on having two spares. The thinking here is that this tyre size will be rare for a few years to come in the AU outback, and it appears to be 'best practise' these days to take a pair of spares.
So it comes down to getting another 18" wheel. (I have also considered taking another tyre alone on the basis that I am more likely to find a fitter than I am a supply and fit in the middle of the country).
So far I have not found a suitable after-market 18" wheel. Suitable means appropriate load rating, PCD=5/120, Offset=53P. In fact no-one seems to make an 18" rim suitable for anything heavier than a Falcadore.
Land Rover quoted $1652 and told me it was cost price (Yes for one only). And all the obvious wreckers don't have any yet.
So I was wondering how many of the Aussie guys on this forum would be interested in a second 18" spare? How much would you be prepared to pay?
For example one of our GB cousins had a full set (5) for ~GBP700 (~AUD2000). Clearly there are costs to get them out here and I haven't done the work on that yet.... If there were 5 of us wanting one more each it might just be a worthwhile exercise....
I might also have a lead on a crowd in Sydney who add 'bling'. Aparently they do 22" rims and trade the 18", but don't like breaking a set (of 4). Could be a option also..
Any takers? D3 (06) SE TDV6, Rear Locker, Rear Air, ARB bar w/winch, Safari Snorkel, 110l aux fuel tank, Kaymar rear bar (twin wheel carrier), Black Widow rear storage system, Rhino rack, GME UHF, Codan HF, IPF HID lights, CSA Explorer 17" w/BFG Mud Terrain KM2 - see Australian 4WD Monthly #103

Haggis,
PM Stevo68. He is after a full set of 18" wheels so maybe you can strike something up if you need to bring in a s/h set from the UK or if you find a set from a blinged D3.

Haggis,
Just make sure they have the same spoke pattern, unless you dont mind having one odd looking rim. I say this as in ZA the V8 SE's have 10 spoke rims (18") vs 5 spokes on the TDV6 SE (18"), I'm not sure if they differentiate in other parts of the world

SE 18" alloys - anyone else want a second spare? |
|
I have 5 18 inch wheels which I do not need if anyone wants them. Have not got my head around the price but would think $A350 each and you pay the freight would suit me. Tyres have only done about 3000 kms. TDV6 SE pattern wheels if you are interested. 05 Discovery 3 SE TDV6 Chawton White with roof rails, driving lights, steel side protection rails. Rego: DISCO3

I live in Perth and I'm after a spare 18" Rim for a trip North on the 21st of July so if you have a few spares by now I'd be interested and if you don't I'd be happy to work with you in getting some.
