Query about rear audio controls. |
|
I have a baby (over)due so I decided to check out the child locks etc in the back.
It seems that the rear audio controls change track on the CD even if there are no headphones inserted.
Is this right? If so, I bet it's REALLY annoying when the kids start fiddling with the controls in the back.

Yup... as my friends have figured out, it can be done.
In my truck, the track controls only work for a few seconds after pressing the Mode button enough times to select the CD Player. Then I think the computer realizes that the driver is also listening to the CD and locks them out.
Of course, all my jerks for friends have to do is press the mode button a few more times, and then they get another couple of seconds of havoc.

Yes, but it won't change if the driver is in control. Just means that you hear the CD player changing CD's when you don't expect it to.
What IS anoying is that all of the controls can change the channels/disks etc so if you have three kids & the two sitting in the outside seats (or the back) have different music tastes, it can get a bit of a shouting match between them. I cured it by ejecting all the CD's the first time they did that, they've since learnt...... Bodsys Brake Bible

I normally listen to CDs whilst driving so I suppose I'm going to have to get used to them constantly changing.
I would say that was a design fault really. The controls should be isolated if there are no headphones present.

If you are driving and listen to CD's, then they shouldn't change by the remote controls... I'll check on mine tonight.
If you're listening to Aux or the radio, then yes they can change them. Bodsys Brake Bible

Well, my findings are exactly the same as Navydevildoc.
If you (the driver) are listening to CD,s it will generally be locked for you only to control it. However, if the rear seat passenegers are quick, they will hit the MODE button and then quickly hit the forward or backward button and it will change the track you are listening to. If they leave it for more thana second or so, they won't be able to change the track until they hit the mode button again.
I've got a 12, 10 and 3-1/2 year old & they generally leave it alone or are too slow to know that they can do this (& no, I won't show them this post....!)

Yeah, now they are just limited to a small 2 or 3 second window of opportunity.
Since no one ever actually uses them in my truck, I was thinking about unplugging them from the amp, but after looking at GTR it would seem that some of the control panels share the same connector (C0492) with some speakers.
So much for that plan.

The problem is that no one ever uses them to listen to music, but my friends LOVE to screw with the CD player to no end.

There you have an easy solution NDD, you need to convert all your CD's to MP3's & connect it via the Aux port, have the MP3 player in the front with you & jo done! Your friends can play away as much as they like, but it won't change what you're listening to Bodsys Brake Bible
