Limp Mode
Hi All, I have a 2005 D3 which I have had from new. Its done 63K and has more or less been trouble free and still drives really well, until I put the caravan on the back and go up hill. After a long pull up hill I get a bing and the caption 'Engine Management Fault' and it goes into limp mode. Pull into the next layby, turn off and on again and alls well until the next big hill. I have plugged my computer in and it shows an EGR fault. I dont understand why it should only show when pulling the caravan and up hill. Yes thats when the engine is under max load but why should that effect the EGR valve. Or could the problem be something else. Help please.Red Defender

Would be best to just blank them off and take it from there.

On full load the EGR valves should be shut, ie no exhaust gas recirculation. If they are jammed and letting any gas through the engine may be running lean on full load and giving the fault.

Ive just connected the computer again and used the data stream mode and looked at the EGR valve positions, on tick over.

Not sure what it means but seems to be a big differenceRed Defender

I would get an EGR blanking kit off eBay, roughly £15, took me about an hour & a half to do mine following the instructions that came with the kit... The D3 is a different beast now Admin on Facebook Discovery 3 & 4 Ownersgroup
