Canoe carrying on a D3
Just wondering if anyone carries a canadian canoe on the roof of their D3 that is fitted with Thule Aero bars.
I recently bought the bars and 'aquired' a 5m Canadian canoe the other day. The problem is that Thule only do a carrying kit for the square bars otherwise all im left with for the aero bars is a Kayak kit (which carries the kayak with the hull facing down. Obviously i cant do this as it would fill up with water on route to the lakes.
Any advice would be appreciated other than changing the unused bars to the square ones.
Just drill a few 6mm holes in the hull, should drain well. No Problem "To finish first, one first has to finish ...."

I carry a 40kg 2 person kayak on my Rhino Aerobar roof rack with the kayak inverted also. To stop the kayak moving side-to-side and to stop the kayak scrapping ontop of the tailgate (when I load/unload), I constructed a rectangular frame that overhung the the rear just enough to allow the tailgate to open but also allowed the kayak to be slid off without scratching the top of the tailgate. This wooden frame is bolted to the aerobar and I use tie-down ratchet straps anchored on the frame or aerobar to secure the kayak. I am sure a similiar setup would suit you. I do not like the Thule kayak mounts because they carry the kayak hull up which (as you noted) allows water to accummulate and there is a liitle aero-dynamic lift.'06 Disco 3 TDV6 SE Buckingham Blue
