How long can I leave mine without the battery connected?
It's has a fire and doesn't go to the garage until Thursday
I'm nervous about attaching in case it starts a fire again
Worried about losing key function
Thanks!

You can leave it as long as you like.

Thanks guys
No more pics
Can't really see much
So far we deffo have a melted Egr
Timing belt housing is also melted
I have 4 bare wires (melted)
Garage has been and looked it over
I have an electrical wizard who does looms coming to fix it Thursday
But he wants the engine stripped
To get to everything - so top end total strip
New belts - which isn't a bad thing
Spliced wires
New alternator
And yes it's driving me nuts not driving it
I've been and gingerly fitted the battery leads and started it
No smoke!
Result
Disconnected again
Phew
Another photo
So finally got it stripped
Alternator is off
It needs timing belt cover
Connector for EGR
EGR housing and EGR
Wires spliced
Fingers crossed - be ready Monday

on 05, it wont bring up the EML, but it may need to be electrically connected as you say. maybe someone with a pre 07 can disconnect the egr plug and see if it errors before you go to the expense of replacing them.Bodsys Brake Bible
