The auto is only 0.5 sec slower to 60 than a manual, and I'm guessing thats with a professional racing driver behind the wheel changing gears at exactly the right point, and as quickly as possible - doubtful many normal drivers could achieve this, whereas all you've got to do in the auto is press one pedal.IE - 05 D3 TDV6 HSE - Zambezi Silver

Before the Disco, I had a manual Prado which maintained the speed in cruise control through all manner of road undulations - the Disco3's Auto not so good. However, for an auto box it's mileage is excellent and the gear change oh-so-smooth. In city traffic, you cannot beat an Auto.'06 Disco 3 TDV6 SE Buckingham Blue

Everyone seems to have missed the fact that there is a major difference between the Auto and manual in terms of the EPB. I originally wanted a manual, but was put-off the idea by Lakeland (thanks guys ).
Unless I'm mistaken, when you are driving an Auto and you stop/engage the EPB, then you can simply push the throttle (in drive) and the EPB will disengage automatically. However, I was advised that a manual car needs the EPB to be manually disengaged before driving off from a stop.
This was my final reason for opting to have the Auto, as I'm more of a 'driver' than a lazy person at heart. All I can say now is that I'm a total convert to autos, and thank God I made the change. SWMBOs new car is also a tiptronic Auto and I reckon it has an even better Auto box than the D3 The older I get, the more I realise that people confuse wrinkles for wisdom

So, If you have a pre-07MY manual, then you can still make a t*t of yourself at the traffic lights The older I get, the more I realise that people confuse wrinkles for wisdom

LR even had the forethought to provide a small device for exactly this purpose within easy reach of the driver. In fact, they even put it in area one might traditionally find the "handbrake" lever, so as not to confuse the driver too much. The driver will probably already have noticed that tjhis small device can be used to engage the EPB in the same way as they used to engage the handbrake in a conventional vehicle, and so shouldn't have too much difficulty in appreciating that it may also be used to disengage the EPB.
(Sorry JMC - it really does work very easily, very smoothly and without too much effort!!)
