Auto or Manual......What do you prefer, and why!!

Hiyas Again

Ive got a D3 Auto which is a dream to drive,A real lazy man's car Laughing but i was wondering why do people opt for the manual version when this auto box is so good.I'd love to know the advantages /disadvantages with either G/box..

I have an auto and I find it calms me down with my driving. Everything becomes a cruise rather than working the gear lever. I don't have anything like the same aggression when driving an auto compared to a manual.
My previous car was a Landcruiser 4.2VX in manual and it just felt like work every time I got in it. (Still loved it tho) I wouldn't go back to manual as I got the lazy bug now!

ouch..... this subject comes up nearly as often as the silver/black one. My personal take? With you on the lazy man thing. Lovely box around town and equally effective offroad in command shift. Would just like a few more mpg, but thems your breaks.
I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Confused

Auto because we're lazy presumably. But doesn't the weight of the car make gear changes in the manual more difficult? (That's a genuine questions by the way, I have no idea!)

Auto is great for pretty much everything unless you really want to have that extra control during extreme off roading that you can get with a Manual.

Butt the auto's also cope well & have done morocco as well as the manuals from what i've heard.

I wouldn't swap the auto for a manual as it's just such a good box and all the electronic driving trickery that comes with the Disco just makes on and off road a dream.

But the Manual brigade will come along soon...... Smile

Let's agree that some people prefer autos for their various advantages, and some people prefer manual for their various advantages.
Personal and individual choice and preference - each to their own. Both boxes are as good as each other.

What he said. Although i'll probably get an auto if I get another one. The lazy aspect really is starting to appeal to me, but I still love 'driving' a manual.

The manual is great !!! but would prefer an auto Embarassed just was too much to add to the price three years ago.

Extra MPG over the auto is OK but not really a deal breaker if you can afford to run the D3 in the first place Rolling Eyes
