Member's Vehicle Profile - Make Mandatory?

The member's vehicle profile is currently a voluntary parameter that new members can choose to enter or not. On the face of it this choice is reasonable but far too many technical queries start with no details on the model, spec or year and this causes unnecessary exchanges between those seeking help and those trying to provide it. Some new members even decide not to answer direct questions about their vehicle, presumably because they deem it irrelevant, yet still seek help.

Could we make the vehicle profile mandatory for all members and add an additional option for those that do not currently own a D3 or D4?

I think such a change would help the flow of the forum and make it easier to respond to technical queries. Or we could make asking a question without providing vehicle details a capital offence….

Robbie you are entirely correct.

I think that this should be mandatory, together with a general indication of the area where the member is based.

I'm happy to say I live in Catherington, others might say Petersfield (the nearest large town) or Hampshire...

So is this a policy we could adopt and tweak the forum accordingly?

The major issue I can foresee is how exactly to 'force' the existing membership to fill it in. Do we withdraw posting permissions until it is completed, what if someone fills it in wrong or with nonsense just to get it done?

I can see huge benefits but also a large hurdle to overcome with the practical implementation of such a policy.

Trying to get some of the established members to do anything without offering a beer first can be a challenge. Could we start with new sign-ups? Perhaps just adding a note next to the profile box stating how important it is to fill it in would help.

Its easy...... If they cant be bothered to describe the vehicle with the problem don't respond to the question. They will soon realise their mistake and add the info required.
