Check the engine sump as may have corrosion between the temperature sensor and sump plug as it will be sign of porous sump. Happened to my D3 patches of oil on the road and then eventually bled to death overnight. Thankfully a neighbour clocked it whilst walking his dog.D3 TDV6 S MY2005

Can you get the plate off for a better look? It's only a few bolts holding it in - but beware they are quite heavy!

mate get the beast on axel stand you can get a better look then you will be able to tell were its coming from when you get right under
I have been under mine for the past two days doing the wishbones .... but had a good look under the engine and to see if there was any problems down there . Tip put the car on the second hight on the stands you will be able to crawl under with more ease .
Good luck hope its not to bad

It could be quite messy Dizzy, so perhaps you could talk your husband into it and then act surprised when the oil flows?

Or do what I'd do. Get the car recovered & let someone else get messy.

not that bad.........
last weekend we saw 4 ladies dip and add oil to a 1.2ltr engine after 1ltr of oil there was just about mark on dipstick should be OK with another ltr; amazing they said they only stopped because light came on, nothing mentioned about the engine sounding rough Experience is a difficult teacher, because she gives the test first and then the lesson afterwards!!!!
