Whats that number.
I give up...searched handbook to no avail.
When ignition is turned on the screen briefly displays the total mileage (before switching to normal data view) on the central line across the display. Alongside this number to the left is, what looks like a date... Eg.... 11-04-2009. It doesn't change and on the face of it, has not relevance to my vehicle age. Is it a date or some other cryptic number sequence?

If you mean the screen in front of the driver, it is the date and total mileage which appears, if you use the button on the end of the left hand stalk you can cycle through all the figures e.g. total mileage, trip meter, average fuel consumption etc.
If your date is wrong you can set the correct date and time by pushing the setup hard key under your touch screen and clicking on date

Never ceases to amaze me how the simplest of options evades my senile brain.
I thought it was likely to be the date, but the figure doesn't seem to have changed...ad predates the cars reg by several years. Will have a look tomorrow to see if it's been somehow left half done by previous owner.
Thanks.

I think that if you have never set the date yourself (after a battery off, hard reset or a CCF file change on mine) it defaults to something like 01-01-2010 but doesn't change because it knows that it has not been set. Probably slightly different on a MY2012 but on my 2010 from the home screen it's settings, set time then date button.
