I had mine recalled last week. No letter just phoned in and booked it. Got a courtesy car ( disco sport) to play in for the day and got a new fixed tow bar . My tow bar has been stuck on since I got it . Previous owner had never removed it.

Hi all,
so I took my Disco4 in for a wheel bearing replacement and was told it'd have the towbar looked at whilst it was in. That was a couple of weeks ago now...
According to the 'special tool' my car needed a new towbar, but apparently that didn't sort it, so apparently it needs a new rear cross member welding in, so that's where it is now...
Here's the health check video they sent me showing the special tool against my car.

cheers,
James

It would have been better if they have removed the tow ball cover before using the special tool as it appears that the circular cut out in the tool should line up with the ball.

I really do not understand the relevance of this test? What is it actually checking? If its just measuring the position of the handle when the bar is inserted, how can wear in the crossmember affect this?
Are they saying that the the handle is going too far into the locked position?

Clearly the towbar checks are turning into a money making event, at this rate they will be able to turn a profit if enough people go ahead with the additional work identified Andy
My Q393 letter for the tow bar stuff came this morning and I am trying to book in now. I already now that my front suspension needs doing though .

Mine was supposed to have been looked at yesterday. GS called to cancel as they say they are having problems with the tool, so I will have to re-book.

Got the letter last week, booked in for yesterday at local stealers. All ok, got a clean car back (inside and out), plus follow up call last night to check if I was happy.
Only downside, got a new Defender as courtesy car!

Got the inside valeted Am taking a sledgehammer to my tow bar today Went for a job as a human cannonball. Not the right calibre.
Hi
Got mine booked in at Hunters in Derby next Tuesday.
Slight problem.
The old tow bar was chucked in the bin a couple of years ago as it was that bloody loose.
I fitted a witter fixed towbar.
So do i remove that before going and tell them i chucked it as it was unsafe?

Mine was in the dealers yesterday for an unrelated warranty job and they checked the tow bar whilst it was there even though I hadn't mentioned it.
Apparently mine is in good condition so I just got some extra bits of paper. MY2022 D5 HSE D300 - with extra nice bits added
MY2019 D5 HSE 3.0 SDV6 - sold to a dealer for a crazy price! - So good I bought another!
MY2012 D4 HSE 3.0 SDV6 - retired to a new home
