towbar crisis
hi
had my car down to rocar moores in Huddersfield for towbar checking,the result was as follows,
not only does it need the new tow bar but also a new rear crossmember as its badly worn but all coverd by landrover.
would need to go into a landrover approved body shop to have the crossmember cut out and new one welded in,
I don't fancy them cutting up my perfect rust free chassis just to have a towbar that I would hardly use,just don't think the repair would be as strong as the original ,
any ideas or comments pls

Just get it booked in I think, any work will be covered by guarantee and I'm sure yours is not the only one that was done.
You may get a nice new loan LR while it's in as well Iggy/Ieuan

Hi all,
I have recently purchased a 2009 Discovery 3 HSE, which doesn't seem to have a towball at all.
The storeage location is empty and there definately is'nt one in situ....are they all supplied with a towball from new?
Having looked behind the cover in the rear bumper i was pleased to see that a 13 pin Euro plug is fitted,as that is what fits my caravan.
What would your advice be in the absence of a towball? just buy the cheapeast i can find and then arrange a check at LR, in the hope they replace it, or, as a belt and braces approach, buy a fixed towbar and be safe in the knowledge that i'm towing the caravan with something more substantial.

If you have the wiring it would be worth checking in the rear n/s cubby box (immediately in front of the rear lights) as that is where the removeable towbar is usually stowed.

I had my tow bar recall done last week along with four wheel alignment. I left the car with them for the day and when I picked it up there was no mention about the tow bar, so I asked the bloke in service how it went and he said "the tow bar is fine," thats it!
I wasn't given any report (if they do that?!) or any extra pages to put with my manual, for all I know they didn't even look at the tow bar

Well, rang the Dealers this afternoon as my truck has been on the IOM for a while and may not have been done, and it's booked in for the 24th. Don't think it's ever been removed, but don't have the keys anyway!
Does anyone know exactly what movement they're looking for wear wise?

ours went though before Christmas, without a hitch. Not sure though the dealer like our old Disco 3 being in there with all the new shiny ones!!!

Tow bar
Can anyone tell me lamdrover policy on the alleged recall on the towbar
I have just bought a 12 plate d4 and need to find out as tow a lot
The local tow bar centre tells me swan neck isnt safe but landrover wont replace
Ive been told thwt they advise not to tow a lot with it!
Ive rung local dealer Farnell landrover ( hillendale ) and receptionist couldnt tell me anything and no one rang me back
What do i do if i have to buy one i will but surely if not safe landrover should replace no question

If your doing large amounts of towing i would go for the fixed towbar, that said surely the swan neck (we have that on ours) should be fit for purpose. Ours has never had a towbar fitted until we got the car so never even followed up the recall letter that we got as didnt see the point, i know a few others who have towed lots got them replaced with the fixed if excessive wear was noted.

Mine passed the dealer check, however, they were not willing to put in writing that it was safe to tow 3.5 ton twice a week so they changed it to fixed.

If it's been for the recall, then there should be an extra page in the handbook. It was supplied loose, so will either still be loose or look like it's been stuck in.
