D4 wheel and tyre recommendations for off road fun? |
|
Evening folks,
My D4 is 6 weeks old now and after two off road days I've had fun, but picked up one puncture, one thoroughly scratched up 18" rim and picked up a couple of dodgy looking gouges on the side walls of the two nearside tyres... Since I plan to replace my space saver spare with a full size wheel, I can make the scuffed alloy my spare wheel and revert back to 4 good wheels on my wagon, but i suspect I might want to "invest" in some spare wheels and slightly more serious tyres for future off road adventures.
So my questions are:
1) can anyone recommend to me a supplier for a set of off road wheel rims to fit a D4, along with some suitable off-road tyres, which I won't lose any sleep about scuffing up. I'm based in Esher, Surrey so someone reasonably local would be preferred.
2) in simple words of as few syllables as possible, explain to me the difference between MTRs and ATRs, and the pros & cons of each.
Cheers,
iPaul

Hello Paul
It was good to meet you last weekend.
The best people to see will be Andy and Dean at AJS - we only fitted the grabber AT2 before Xmas and Salisbury Plain was our first opportunity to take them offroad.
Very happy with them
Go see the guys as they will show you the different tread patterns and explain the importance of how the shoulder lugs and strenghthen side walls will help you make up you own mind to suit your own requirements.
Good luck
Mark

Apologies, in fairness I should've also mentioned site sponsor Andy at AJS.

Ron got to support what you're saying. Andy, AJS4x4 is a sound bloke to deal with too.
As the same goes for Ken, having delt with them both now. ATB

Surely you mean 19" Paul?
AFAIK the 18" rims don't fit on the 3.0l D4. Back in the game!
