Lowered middle seat

I was idly looking at a new D4 in the stealers last week and I noticed the middle seat in the second row was in the dropped position but with the back rest up. My one won't do that. Like the other two seats you have to have the back down to lower the seat and can't then raise it.
Does anyone know what they have changed, or why?

Was there a headrest attached? maybe they lowered it to give a better view from the mirror?

Perhaps it was broken by an unsympathetic potential customer.

I'd be interested to find out how it's done. I've just tried it in mine (MY15) and it's rock solid with the seat back in the upright position. With the seat as you described, it might be easier to access the female part of the seat belt buckle for some of the ancients that I oft times carry. At present, I have to reach over them to buckle them up.

I read this post last night and tried it today whilst I was out in the car but couldn't get it to work, perhaps as Robbie says the seat mechanism may have been broken.

I had this happen in my D3. Broken bit on the fold mechanism. The frame was replaced under warranty.

This was a brand new car in the dealers and there was a lowered but otherwise upright, central seat. Reminded me of the seats in JFKs car perhaps.
My 2010 won't do it (I tried again today) so they must have changed something. Confused
