New to us 65-plate HSE Luxury

Despite our old D3 becoming a bit of a money pit (even after LR kindly replaced the engine when it spun its bearings/snapped its crank) for the first time ever, I’ve bought the same car again and picked up a new (to us) HSE Luxury in white with black pack this week.

Not had a chance to get any proper photos of it yet but suffice to say we’re made up. Despite so many similarities to our old D3, it is in a completely different league.

Its due a service and I suspect a new stop/start battery as the amber ECO warning comes on intermittently, and reading 40 pages of the thread about external temp and HVAC TSB’s suggests it needs those addressing too but otherwise it appears/seems spot on.

Plans:
Swap my other 20” gloss black alloys with almost new Scorpion Verde all-seasons in 285/50-20 on to replace the current worn set of boots - what happens if I fit non TPMS wheels to a car with TPMS?
Invest in an IID tool (and sell my Nanocom Evolution)
Potentially swap the steps for some rock/tree sliders
Sell off the various D3 spares currently occupying my garage
Upgrade the woeful interior lights with LED bulbs
Add remote heating to the timed climate
Add a cubby fridge
 Cheers,

Gareth

Was the cubby fridge not standard on the HSE Lux in the UK? It seems to be in the US.

Also, is the car fitted with the lane change thingy that makes the steering wheel vibrate, and the proximity sensors on the mirrors?

Great looking car. My absolute fav combination. It's what I'm looking for (as well as the money to buy it; something else I can't find... Big Cry )

Lovely looking D4, same colour combo as my earlier MY11 D4 Landmark.

Just be aware that you'll probably have rubbing issues (going to full lock) with 285/50s.
The way way around it is having 'stops' fitted to the steering rack (available through ProSpeed).
Did that on mine, stops the rubbing but give you less steering lock e.g. two goes to drive into a supermarket parking slot rather than the one.

Thanks all - loving it so far. Hard to believe it has any relation to our old D3 as it is so nice and relaxing to drive, it feels like a completely different beast.

We both wanted a white one last time but couldn’t stretch funds to an early D4, ending up with our black D3 instead. I’ve been looking at possible replacements for months and months and not quite found the one I wanted. Knew it had to be grey, silver, white or at a push gold, and absolutely had to have the black pack. I was on to the dealer as soon as this one appeared but didn’t know anything other than age, mileage and price - the fact it was white with black pack was luck!

Re cubby fridge - I don’t think they were standard on the HSE Luxury. I didn’t see one in the various cars I looked at. No lane changing or side impact options on this one either, not options I was bothered about. I think the only options it has over standard HSE Luxury are rear tow electrics.

@ronp re tyres and rubbing - Censored . Didn’t realise that. Is there a chassis/suspension difference between D3 and D4? We’ve run 285/50 for a good few years with no issues. I originally had 3mm spacers but discovered they weren’t needed (and seemed to stop the dreaded steering wheel shimmy at motorway speed when removed.) If that’s the case, I’ll have to rethink my wheel/tyre approach.

Can anyone confirm what happens if I fit non-TPMS wheels to a car expecting TPMS? I’m assuming a warning - can it be deactivated?

And as for mods, I’m trying to resist (for now!!! Whistle )
 Cheers,

Gareth

And now a question - does anyone else find the electric steering column doesn’t go high enough? With the seat/column set for me, I can’t see half of the dials or message centre as the top of the wheel is in the way. Wasn’t a problem in the old D3 with manual column.
 Cheers,

Gareth

I’m 6’5” and noticed the same issue compared to the D3, tend to use the digital speed readout as the top of the main one is behind the wheel.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I talk from my own experience.
Ran my new MY05 D3 with 285/50/20s (even 295/50/20s) with no rubbing issues.
However, when I changed to my MY11 D4, I put my 28/50s on and had rubbing issues "under lock".
Transpired that MY08 D3 models onwards (incl D4s) had a strengthening member added to the chassis.
(this was to stop the front wheel entering the cabin area in light of a serious frontal collision)
It was this addition that caused rubbing!

BUT please, just don't take it from me, try it for yourself. Wink

Ps, currently running with 275/45/20 AT3s on my Corris MY14 D4 with no rubbing issues.
Pics in my gallery of my Fuji MY11 D4 with - rear quarter = 275/45/20; front quarter (after steering stops added) = 285/50/20

If you fit non TPMS wheels you’ll get a warning after about 5 miles and then it will flag up on every subsequent start and then disappear after 10 seconds or so (mines a 12MY so 14 MY on may be different).
