Boring Disco 4 LCD Home Screen |
|
Just got a disco4/2010 after driving a Jaguar XFs. LCD screen are virtually the same but when viewing my Jag home screen on the LCD display its a full display with all the heating controls etc.
Was expecting something similar with Disco4 but hey... the LCD screen despite being almost the same is soo boring. 2/3 of the screen is wasted and blank when in home screen!!!!
When you switch it off, it goes off... on my Jag I can choose it to display the time or a rather neat set of Jaguar images like screen savers....
Can the system be modified to at least be less boring in day to day use or display some other useful info?
thanks Loving my D4 HSE -MY10......!!!!

Obviously the Jag and the Disco are quite different vehicles ...homework prior to purchase would have been beneficial in avoiding disappointment
Oh and the answer is no 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Again realised error of my ways... they are very similar display systems, so was surprised again that such a marque doesn't give these nice little, but fairly obvious touches... what a shame as really missing a trick or two at no cost ! Loving my D4 HSE -MY10......!!!!

You needed to have bought the RRS
Maybe similar but I'd bet they had already designed most of the D4 stuff before the XF.
I know a guy that worked on the XK GUI so guessing he probably did the XF as well.
I wouldn't mind betting there is some way of changing the logo pic on start up but doubt you can change the fundamentals of the screen and buttons... I tend to put my D3 in Sat Nav mode so I can see the roads around me if I want to divert around a jam (then have Tomtom/Waze/Google/Apple maps) on the iPhone for an accurate routing system MY15 DIY Black Pack (Better than factory and half the price!)

I find our screen is fine - but then I keep it in Sat Nav mode, either passive or active. LR Discovery 4 XS pulling an Airstream 532 Caravan also own (since new) a 1996 MGF

But how do you stay in the 4x4 screen? Mine is going back to the home screen after I'd say three minutes or so.... Cheers Patrick from Munich

Difficult to compare the two, the Jag is simply a car and if it didn't have a few features to keep you amused then it may very well be a little boring! The Disco is so much more than just a car, wait for a good dumping of snow or take it off roading or tow at 3.5 tonnes or simply take seven adults in comfort, after all those things I think you will forget about the boring display.

I would say you have a problem there, if I stick mine onto the 4x4 info screen it will stay on it until either I change screens or I restart the car. Cheers Ian

Yes Stu, understand that... The jag XF is a great car and very entertaining. Its not that I need entertaining its just I get annoyed when features can be there at zero cost, but they dont put them in, or dont put any thought into it.
All the climate and heated seat etc could have been controlled via the LCD rather than button on dash.
then again to answer my own point the D4 is a utility vehicle that has luxury items, so I suppose buttons are more practical than lcd tapping.
loving it otherwise,
(just gotta get main dealer to sort the list of items out that they didn't take care of before delivery) Loving my D4 HSE -MY10......!!!!

I'm sure there is a timeout setting in there somewhere. Not with my car at the moment, so can't go and look for you.
