Just used my IID tool for the first time for the cod update. Worked a treat. Followed the manual and the advice on here. Great piece of kit.

I love kit like this, has a solidity and old-world feel about it. The voltage ripple is what you are trying to avoid when adding additional power as some ECUs may not appreciate is when being flashed; this is why regular chargers are discouraged.

I would be very surprised if your gear had any significant ripple but I know that quite a few that are into radio have their own o'scopes you may be able to check this for yourself.

Yes I do own a scope so can check, Ripple is not good for Radios either Thumbs Up

I have a 30A switch mode radio PSU, but my thoughts were like yours that maybe the noise from the switcher may well cause problems.

It's a good excuse to get the scope out then.

Bought myself a new digital scope recently - they have moved on quite a bit and I need to catch-up!

I've noticed when I've been in my local LR dealer showroom they always have the display model car light on, and knowing how fragile LR batteries are Whistle I asked what they use to keep the batteries charged, the service manager kindly showed me:

connected direct to the battery, he said he thought they cost around £400 Big Cry

But at 50 Amps should keep the power up during flashing Mr. Green

£650 Shocked really?
Surly a stable 12v supply shouldn't cost that much Question

I don't think these units just have a regulated 12 volt supply Wink

The show room leaves these connected to the showroom cars all day, admittedly with the lights on, but you still need to ensure you don't shaft the battery, so there will be some form of embedded micro and some electronics.

If you check out the CTEK Multi XS25000 Extended Battery Charger, list price £216.66 ex. VAT ( £259.99 inc. VAT) This is what some are using when flashing, it's only 25 amp Smile

I was just curious as to what the showroom used, I assume the workshop probably has a couple Wink

MXS25 here: http://www.tayna.co.uk/CTEK-MXS-25-25A-8-S...P8842.html

I justified it as I needed a good charger anyway and also have electric fence batteries to charge (when the Censored dids aren't pinching them Evil or Very Mad ). Wink

Hmmm, it appear the only difference between the XS25000EXT and the MSX25 is the XS has longer charge leads, a lotta dosh for longer leads Confused So looks like the MSX is a better deal Thumbs Up

I have a few traction 24v chargers for work, good bit of kit but not cheap.

They have never let me down and have been used outside up mountains in all kinds of weather.

I bought mine on Ebay for about £100 each.

Really impressed with this tool.
Calibrated the suspension this morning as the left hand side was around 15-20mm higher than the right.

Followed the instructions, very straightforward. All sorted now.

Going to the buy the power supply I highlighted in a previous post so that I can do the nav in the move update.

Regards

Leigh

Evening all after reading lots of posts on here about the iidtool I ordered myself one, it turned up today so once it was registered online and code was put in it was time to have a quick play enabled the 3 flash indicators and reverse lights on with follow me home lights.
Was a bit worrying when the sat nav turned off aswell all the lights on the dash light up like a Christmas tree, then all was well thank god.
Thanks to all that have posted on the forum to make easy to follow. Thumbs Up
