keys not suddenly not working and battery low warning up
Hi there,
Last night primary key fob stopped working. I came back to the car keyless entry worked and allowed me to get in but not start the car with key inside. Touching key to underside of steering column allowed me to start, but both this key and the secondary one no longer lock car or start. I'm also now seeing low battery warning.
Car does not have sunroof, I know sunroof leaks can affect wiring but should not be the case.
I did give the car a wash about 3 days ago but have a!so done 300 miles since.
Did have an issue where I had opened the car with primary key and dad came to car with second key And he locked it and unlocked it and the alarm went off.
Any ideas anyone?

I had exactly the same problem with my 2010 Focus about 2 years ago. Key would open door, but would refuse to allow me to attempt to start the car. It was like the immobiliser was locked on.
The man from the AA was unable to work out the problem and was about to recover it when he realised that we'd left a cool box plugged into the car overnight. With decent voltage available via his charging pack, everything worked again.
Suggest that you make sure that your battery has full charge before attempting anything else.2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2

Hi,
Yes I had changed battery on primary key with no change.
I have resolved it for anyone who experiences the same problem. Today when going to the car for the first time I found that the battery was completely flat. So called AA they started charging battery and got car to pick up key fobs again by taking out fuse 17 for a minute (situated behind glove box). Then both keys are working again. Battery issue put down to car constantly search for fob. Long term resolution is that a software update is required for the car to stop it happening again.
Anyone one award of the fault or had to have their software updated?

both my keys stopped working on my D3 on the very same day i bought it I replaced both batteries with the standard rechargeable ones and they have been fine ever since, bit of job soldiering them in though. Also picked up some new covers off e bay for £6 each with land rover logo

D3 is quite different to the D4 system. The D4 has no ignition barrel and the battery is not rechargeable.
