My Disco 4 broke down
Well, took the missus to Ikea in Nottingham today and on the way back, all was going well until I got on the A50. Then I heard a really deep rumble and thought I must have a flat tyre. Pulled over at the first lay-by and no flat tyre. Smelt of burning rubber though. Turned the engine off for ten minutes and then set off again. after 100 yards, the sound came back again, very low rumble coming from the front of the car. Pulled into some services and at low revs and a few miles an hour, it was almost juddering.
Got my sister in law to drive my D3 to us and then were able to use the D3 to tow the D4 back to the local independent LR garage I use. `dropped the keys through the door with a description of the problem. So not sure what the problem is, but I dare say its going to be expensive.
Forgot to renew my RAC membership last month, so guess what I am going to do when I get paid......
I know its a long shot, but any ideas what it could be. Could really do with it not being expensive as I have the D3 booked in for a new air con condenser and auto gear flush on wednesday.D3 Java Black 57 Plate SE, Night Breakers, Grabber ATs, Sidelight LEDs and best of all - Narpy torch. loads more to buy.

Checked the wheels to see if they were hot, but nothing. Had A look under the bonnet, but no idea what the aux belt looks like. I did see one of the belts spinning, but I have no idea what is what when I look in the engine bay. Obviously landrover not yet converted me to a mechanicD3 Java Black 57 Plate SE, Night Breakers, Grabber ATs, Sidelight LEDs and best of all - Narpy torch. loads more to buy.

forgot to add, when I was being towed, my engine was on and I was in neutral, no problems or noises. It only happened when in drive.D3 Java Black 57 Plate SE, Night Breakers, Grabber ATs, Sidelight LEDs and best of all - Narpy torch. loads more to buy.

Prop shaft centre bearing? Haven't experienced this on the Disco but when they go on our trucks there is often a smell of burning rubber......

Same happened to me going down the M8 - EPB stuck on.
Felt like a flat tyre, smoke and smelt like burning rubber. Check the temperature on your wheels if it happens again - one will be very hot.
EPB, discs and pads replaced - but mine were done under warranty.

Well, its been at the garage all day. They took it out twice to get it to make the same noise and nothing. They checked the aux belt and brakes and nothing. Checked the diagnostics and no errors found. So no clearer as to what happened. It drove back fine, so all i can do is keep an eye on it.
thanks for all the responses.D3 Java Black 57 Plate SE, Night Breakers, Grabber ATs, Sidelight LEDs and best of all - Narpy torch. loads more to buy.
