Noise on AM radio

Hi All. Im in the process of doing a trip up through Central Qld and back down the coast. While out in the sticks, I was listening to ABC central. After a while, when I hit a bump in the road, the radio reception started having a noise (like interference) in it, then it dissappeared when another bump was hit. I was enen able to stop the noise when I hit the side of the radio on the passanager side. But when I was in any of the large places that had a radio station, all was good, until I was back out of the major towns. Got the dealer at Mackay to have a look, but they could find anything wrong, they just blames ABC. Any ideas. Rob

Rob, I had exactly the same problem with my AM reception. The dealer in Sydney first checked to see if the aerial was earthed properly. This required the lining in the cargo space. The reception after this was just as bad. Great whilst close to stations but ratshit about 40 Km away. I eventually got jack of bashing the radio console to "reset" and removed the covers to investigate. Found that if the aerial wire ( black insulated coming from the left and disappearing down behind the radio) was jiggled then the static stopped/started. Then pulled the radio out and found the fitting at the end of the wire was faulty. I fixed it and the radio worked OK for a while but then played up again. At my next service I told the dealer service manager about this and when I picked the D3 up after the service the reception was OK again although according to the Job Sheet they had again only pulled of the back lining to check out the aerial earthing. No problems since -about 4 months ago. The dealer did not doubt that I was having reception problems even though the bloody thing worked Ok sitting on top of the stations.
Hope this helps.
