What are we going to do about VA? As a professional, is he allowed to take part? Steve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)

So long as it's fair (ie. he can't win every month) then it would still be good to see some professional talent (among the rest of us, of course) 8)2007 Porsche Boxster (987) 2.7

Okay, I'd like to get this up and running and give you all a week or so to think about it before we start for the month of August. I'll put it in its own seperate thread though of course.
From other forums which run similar systems, I've got a few ideas of general rules to apply to each competition. I'll stick these in the August thread. I'll also put in details about choosing winners, prizes etc.
I think I've decided some themes and prize(s) for the August competition.
Regarding entries, should photos be uploaded to the users galleries and then links provided in the dedicated thread?
Perhaps I could create a general DISCO3.CO.UK Photo Competitions account on Photobucket, provide the username and password and then entries could be uploaded to that gallery and all kept together in one place, without the need of having to create endless public galleries on here? (+ saving bandwidth for Martin).

After 6 years of studies I went freelance for a year then a sideways step took me down a completely different career path.Regrets ? yes some.Photography , ie equipment , has changed so so much since the last time I looked through a viewfinder that I wouldn't know where to start.Although if you've got the eye then you're more than halfway there. If you're thinking of turning professional CY I suggest you spend maybe a year with an established photographer in the field you wish to specialise in and see if you've still got the hunger.Give it a go at least
VA , a pro - photographer ? Well it makes up for the RRS I suppose
Cool - although if it's a holiday theme, I'll be fa-hooked as I'm off at the end of the month for two weeks - so I'll see the theme on my return "To finish first, one first has to finish ...."

Thanks Discowex. Ideally I'd love to concentrate on cars in my future career, be it motoring journalist - motoring photography, although I know that having a dream job is often impractical in reality...
I've also been adviced that the pay isn't too great, although I don't really know about that?
Where I go, you're expected to be an accountant or a lawyer really... so I don't know too much about the profession
90 - I'll keep the themes open to some variety
Just not sure if making an exclusive Disco3 Photobucket account would work out, any advice?2007 Porsche Boxster (987) 2.7

Cool, but when are you going to launch the theme ?
Not too sure on the photobucket idea, would it use lots more bandwidth if we posted links from our accounts ? I'm not a computer techy sort - sorry"To finish first, one first has to finish ...."

Very soon hopefully. Once I've worked out where to tell people to put their photos
I'm no web tech either so not sure about the bandwidth Just trying to think how we could keep all the photos together so that they're easy to browse etc...
