I have just buyed a Discovery III HSE from germany and i want some big wheels on it.
I have searched a little on this forum and on google but i havent found much.
Do you have any suggestion for 22-24 inches wheels for this ride? pics and wheel names?
Thanks from norway

22 and 24 is big!!
The bigger you go, the less tyre profile you'll have in order to keep rolling circumference and therefore gearing the same.
I run 20" Stormers and the 40 profile is a bit lower than I'd like.

whatever size you go for, make sure the tyres you pick are weight rated at 111 or higher, as most larger tyres arent weight rated high enough for the D3, although I did see some 23"'s on a US site at 116.

Did the handling seem to improce much with the lower sidewall?

Cann't say i notice an improvement in handling over the 18's.
In fact the ride is harsher and you're more limited to what you'd tackle on an off-road situation....... always on the road less travelled 🚧
I have ordered 10x22" tsw montage chrome with 285/35-22 hankook ventus st07 Discovery III HSE

But arent the Ventus ST's @ 285/35x22's only load rated at 102, which is way too low for the D3.
From the Hankook Europe site, the only 22" rated close are 305/40x22 @ 114 and 325/40x22 @ 118

I am looking to get a set of 20"Stormers like ronp, but the supplying dealer is offering me the following tyre
275/ 40 x 20 Continental contact sport 4x4 106 Y
Am i right in thinking these are under-rated for the D3? I have given the guy the details of my car & he has said the proposed are fine. If they are not acceptable could anybody suggest a suitable tyre which will work with the weights of the D3.

Ask him to put in writing that the tyres comply with the vehicle manufacturers specifications and that he acknowledges his liability in selling you the product.....then see how 'fine' he thinks they are 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

275/40s are standard on RRS, so it sounds like the dealer has a set of these complete, and doesnt want to take off/shop the tyres.
275/40's are are little on the low side anyway, in terms of gearing and profile (harsh ride), so go for 275/45x20's. I've seen these load rated at 110 (111 being the D3 stnd)

Mine are Continental Cross Contact UHP's 295/40x20, ZR rated, weight 1060kg
What does the 1060kg relate to in the three digit spec - 110?
Think when I change will go for the 45 profile!

Ron
1050kg is 110
1090kg is 111
and for those tempted by 106's this is 950kg, so a 100kg per tyre lower than manufactures recommendation.
But, I guess this is where some of the confusion comes from, as 4x950 = 3800Kg load, which is way higher than the weight of a D3 @ approx 2700kg. I guess some of it is cornering loads, where the weight moves to the loaded wheels, and some of it will be off road performance, where you may have a wheel completely off the ground, so the 2.7 tons is now spread across 3 tyres, not 4.
hope this helps

More on Big Wheels
Hi - new to the forum, so be gentle with me. Just aquired nice HSE TDV6, however has some RRS Stormer wheels fitted with 275/40 tyres 106W. However the Spare is original D3 spare 255/55. So rather worried if I fit the spare I may end up driving in Circles!
Also LR dealer advised that Non standard wheel sizes will invalidate warrenty 0 but only have 8 months warrenty left so not too worried. So what do I do about the spare? Anybody got a RRS spare kicking around? Other option is to buy a new Storm Wheel - in which case any suggestions.
The weigh rating on the tyres worry me as well - anybody had a real life experience of using these tyres, I will be 'Shed Pulling' a larger Crusader caravan.
Cheers JonJonny O TDV6 HSE
