RAC check - worth it?

Hi all,
is it worth getting an RAC full check when buying from a LR dealer (approved car with 2 year LR warranty)?

I asked this question on Facebook earlier as im looking at buying a discovery 3 this week and an overwhelmingly aot of my friends say it isn't worth it. They advised to just try take a friend who's a mechanic or extremely savy with cars along with me.

I fancied buying a Jag S class a few years ago off Ebay. Car looked immaculate but as was 200 miles away, paid RAC £120 to do a check before I went up and parted with cash.

Turns out the car as crash repaired but not on insurers database so had a clean records. No photo record of work done but was advised to walk away.

If buying from a LR dealer, get warranty and be happy, otherwise, money well spent.
