Finally... my dream car
After wanting a disco since being 17 years old, it always being my 'dream' car, I've just paid a deposit on a 2 year old HSE in Santorini black with almond leather and am waiting for it to arrive in the local dealer so I can check it out in person.
Managed to blag a good chunk off (used the "Audi and Volvo were offering me way more for trade-in" trick) and a few extras, including dragging my wife along to the half day experience so she's happier driving it.
Here's my new baby:

I owned a Freelander for a while a good few years ago, but am coming to a Disco from owning two top-spec EX Honda CRVs from new over the last 6 years. Though I really can't fault them as family buses, I'm looking forward to a bit more luxury and a bit more space for my wife, 3 kids and a dog. Hopefully the roof-box won't be a permanent fixture anymore!
I've spent a good while lurking on this forum, and you all seem a knowledgable and friendly bunch.
Have already been thinking about third party sidesteps or bars (not sure which yet the steps look quite wide/big - what do you lot think?) - and had a good look at recommendations for third party boot mats and dog carriers.
I'm happy with the base HSE spec, but apparently mine has the following - any ideas?
- Park heat - is this the fuel burning heater with remote?
- Windsor leather pack - is that an addition to the normal HSE spec?
- Tow pack - that's the removable tow bar/electrics, right? Not that I'll use it!
Final question for now - as Disco owners and enthusiasts if you guys would recommend me buying ONE extra, third party or otherwise, what would it be? Would love to know your thoughts!
Can't wait to become an owner - in just a week or so, hopefully!
Cheers,
Stu

One extra It's ok - I'm sure you'll soon get the hang of it. Anyway, you'll need a spare wheel security plate to go with that fault reader. Contact member RLD:

Looks great 8) The park heat could just be the timed version where you have to set the times you want to operate it via the sat nav screen but if it is just that you can easily upgrade it to the remote version
Can't remember whether Windsor leather was an upgrade on an HSE or you had to pay extra
The tow pack should be the removable tow ball and the electrics.
Like tayaste I would probably recommend a good code reader also Cheers Ian

Get steps to 'complete' the car ..... But maybe sliders if you go off road a lot - they don't look so good or as 'comfortable' to step on ... as it were... to my eye anyway... 2016MY Discovery HSE - Black

Thanks, all.
Seems the opinion on steps/bars is divided! Living on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales, and the Lake District not too far away either, I am planning on off-road - so bars it is.
Just need to decide whether I go for them in stainless steel or black..
Concerning you're recommending a fault code reader! Paying the premium to buy it from LR as an approved pre-owned does give me the 2 year full warranty, so though issues covered under that aren't my problem during that time I might well pick one up just in case!
Will message RLD about a wheel protector once it's on the drive - thanks for that also - who'd of known!
So... so far my shopping list is side bars, new roof bars (my current Thule ones won't fit), a bike rack, boot mat, dogbag, wheel protector and a fault reader. Quite fancy some front and rear headlight protectors, too.
Hmm. I might have to avoid telling my wife about this shopping list and see if she notices stuff appearing on/in the car over the few months after purchase...
Cheers,
Stu

Stainless would look good against Black paint.
Would recommend you get the wheel protector before you get it on the drive as still could get nicked.Displaced Yorkshireman.

SDV6 Auto obviously, Loire blue/Ebony, ugly kid glass, RLD wheel protector, private plate and maybe side steps.

Are you going to use it agresivley off road? I ask as both of those will not offer much if any protection and they certainly will not offer protection in the supermarket car parks.
I have had side steps on all of my Discos and used the off road with no real issues apart from the alluminium side strip being scratched. The side steps offer a fair amount of protection and they also offer protection to the doors if you put it in off road hight in the supermarket car parks. One other thought, they are cheaper than the bars you are looking at. Pick a set up off ebay for £100 keep them for 3 years throw away and stick a new set on.MY17 D5 1st Edition Namib Orange
