Hi Paul
The road noise from the STT's is substantial, but only at fairly low speeds, ie. up to about 80km/h. After that the windnoise takes over if you have a roofrack. It's a kind of grumbling noise at a crawl, that progresses to a "who, who, who, who" sound the big tread blocks make. Don't know what they sound like at speed without a roofrack though.

ISTR they sound like the wheel bearings are going on all 4 corners, turning the music up seemed to help The End

I have STT's, and they are noisy at speed. Personally I get used to it, and 75mph they are ok. However, when I swap them for the road tyres, (Synchrones) the resultant 'hush' is very noticeable.

Cooper STT very noisey, but with roof rack, snorkel, and a teenager with music blairing who cares.
But seriously I only put them on for serious off roading, most of the time on road Cooper HT+ which are quiet.
Swaping wheels is a bit of a chore but worth it , off road the STT is an awsome tire

Mick2020,
I had both ST's and STT's on my D3. Both are as noisy as each other. The D3 is very well insulated however the tyre whine will still be audible in the cabin and more so with the window down but it is very livable IMHO. I take my STT's off when not 4WD'ing to increase the tread life but if I had plenty of money to throw at new tyres then I'd just leave them on. What I'm say is that the noise factor isn't that bad in a D3.
BTW if you do get ST's then expect tread chipping and lugs tearing off which is what happened to my ST's (245/70/17") before I changed to STT's.
