Thanks Geoff & Woolmeister |
|
My low mileage (177,000 ) TDV6 developed a nasty smoking habit last week, Steve (Woolmeister) popped over and read my injector pressures finding two way out of trim.
A short 95 mile visit to Geoff. on Monday didn't go quite to plan Geoff. replaced the two duff injectors and I then had even more smoke, unfortunately not even drive-able so I had to get a lift home.
On Wednesday two more injectors were slipped in and the car is now back on my happy list.
Now done 300 miles or so since without a sign of smoke.
That's all six injectors in the last year, my words of wisdom are - If you need an injector you should plan for all six, you just end up chasing the balancing pressures around. (oh and get Geoff. to do them, he especially loves doing the nearside rear one)
My symptom was just grey smoke, to start with just on idle speed so sat in traffic was embarrassing, It ran absolutely fine otherwise, levels were all okay even though it looked a bit like a head gasket or turbo failure at first.
Thanks Geoff. & Steve for your assistance and work. Paul Redding

You're very welcome, Steve.
Glad to hear geoff. sorted you out in the end. It seems injector problems are becoming contagious:

I have a similar problem - but without the smoke - which I plan to keep an eye on but expect to replace a couple of injectors very soon (also including number 6 ).
Always happy to help other local forum members; Especially ones who give so much back to this forum.
See you soon (but hopefully not too soon ).

As you may have noticed we don't have the early ones in our range, despite dealing directly with Schaeffler who own the Siemens VDO brand they will not sell the product to anyone apart from DI specialists. I am expecting to have an alternative source in the near future.
One came from another forum member selling an unwanted new one a few months ago, the other 3 unfortunately came from LR as I needed them in a hurry. I know there are some on the bay but am not a big fan of that market place, especially when I need them to arrive next day. Paul Redding

Steve
Will you please let us all know when you have a source of excellent, competitively priced injectors?
