Seems a bit odd to me these various 'options' are fitted and lugged around in the car but not 'enabled'. I understand if you purchase some electronic wizardry they can be switched on....? Surely that can't be right?.... LR would know at service time, or some such....... some items which shouldn't be working are and thus invalidate the warranty?
How, can you claim for a defective FBH, for example when it wasn't meant to be operable in the first place?......I'm confused and its a strange/unique place is owning a Land Rover....... 2016MY Discovery HSE - Black

Yes - I have had a quick look at that .... maybe the look was too quick ... and have missed the thrust of it.... I'm not too interested in enabling anything that I don't have already .... just wondering why on earth this should be? and frustrated about heaving stuff around in my car I can't or shouldn't use?2016MY Discovery HSE - Black

What you're asking is covered in the top paragraph there. It has a function when fitted, even with no timer/remote.06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti

It's there to help quickly warm your engine coolant on cold winter mornings.

... Yes I know what its for ..... just don't understand why its shown as an optional extra which I haven't paid for..... and yet its apparently there anyway - WTF? - but not enabled ..... I feel we are going round in circles here ..... basically I have something fitted that I did not order and can't use unless I enable it somehow.... as I said - its a strange world I have entered into here...
So are you telling me this FBH will come on anyway when the temperature is low enough without me doing anything?2016MY Discovery HSE - Black

.... surely that can't be right? .... if I've parked the car up somewhere which has constantly really low temperatures this FBH will run until it runs out of fuel.... despite me not 'asking' it to do a anything? I still feel I've really not understood this thingy...... 2016MY Discovery HSE - Black

Right here we go...
All uk D4'S are diesel and hence all UK D4's have a FBH.
It is there to supplement the heating as the engine doesn't produce enough surplus heat in cold conditions.
It will only run when below 6 deg
It will only run when it has enough fuel in the tank.
All UK diesel D4's have a FBH.
IF you have the timed option you can set it to come on and pre-warm car (same rules above apply about low fuel)
If you have the timed and remote option you can turn it on with a blip of the remote (same rules again ref fuel etc)
hope that helps

I'm left wondering why I type stuff, take photos and add them to the wiki. The FBH must be the most well-covered topic on this forum. Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948

I have just had mine (timed climate) enabled by Wiggs two weeks ago. It has transformed my life but does have its down falls in the 2011 models. It only lets you set two times and cannot change them by the day of the week. Wiggs told me to get the remote control. I said it will be fine as my days are quiet structured. How wrong I was.
Dear Father Christmas
This year I have been a good boy. Please can I have the remote bits and bobs to so I can activate my FBH
