Recovery Points and other accessories

Dear MGO's

As a newbie to Perth and the Disco 3, but not to Landies, I have a couple of questions.

1. I need recovery point set up front and rear. I do not want to go with replacement bumbers yet. Any ideas.
2. I went for the S, because of the fact that I cut out some electronics, and by being able to give the vehicle a static 2" lift. I cannot find any suppliers who can do it. Rovacraft can supply, but no-one will fit. BTW, has anyone done this to their vehicles? Any feedback?
3. There is a crowd in South Africa that fits the winch behind the bumber? Does anyone know whether this has been done here?
4. I also want vehicle armour for the under carriage. Asfir in Israel can only supply for TDV6 and no petrol models. Are the covers actually different for the various models? Is there anyone else in Aus that can supply?

Any pointers and advise muchly appreciated. Wink

If you remove the plack plastic cover from the bottom of the
front bar you will see a recovery point there.
It works well, i had to use it a few times recently on fraser island
to get snatched out of the sand untill i let my tyres down to 12psi.
There is also one hehind the tow electrics cover on the rear bar

Good point. I just thought that these were for show, or perhaps like the D2 Jade Rings, useless for recoveries, but good to secure the Landy to the ship that ships it. Very Happy

Any ideas about the body armour and suspension lift?

Welcome tothe forum.

Private Message (PM) login "Simon_arch1" who frequents this forum about body armour and hidden winch mount. You'll find a sticky in this page with what you need.

Do a search on King Springs and Pedder Springs in this forum and you'll find your solutions to the lift. Others on here have done it to their coiler D3's.

If yours has air suspension i cant help you but if you have coils then read my cape york post
the Kings springs heavy duty 2" lift are brilliant

Pierrej - confirming - yes - King Springs are available to give I believe a 40mm lift - part no's KRFR-13 (front) & KRRR-14 (rear) - contact a local King Springs dealer is probably best - should be no more than $200/pair - hmmm wonder if I shoiuld have got the S too Wink

4x4intelligence.com.au can help with cargo barriers, underbody armour, discrete winch mount, wheel carrier...

Suspension Technologies Aust. [John Wills] at Yass can do the suspension and also the best of both worlds can fit it with a air suspension completly controlable by you, ie. no Censored computor stuff. I now wish I had got a S and retro fitted the air suspension.

Thanks to all the replies. Lots of good advise.

Some comments on vehicle choice, which makes sense as well. I have owned all flavours of Landies, including Series vehicles, P38 Rangie, plenty of Disco's, and plenty of Defenders.

What made my choice easier was the fact that I had most fun/success kitting out vehicles with less electronics. Air suspension is great around town, and slow offroading, but air suspension give hassles, i.e. air compressor overheating/airbag punctures etc. Not to mention the fact that it thinks for you. Driving over 50km/h it decides you are now on a rough highway, let us drop the ride height.

I wanted something that has a static ride hide, and which I am in full control. Also read the 2005 Australian 4wd Mag(Cannot remember the month) when they tested the 100Cruiser/Patrol/Disco.

I must admit, it did not feel right looking at the Cruiser when I went shopping.

The fun is really building the vehicle to your own spec, and the places it will take you effortlessly after that.

Being able to lift a Disco of 2.5 tonne is one thing - being able to snatch-recover is another - where the forces can be up to 8tonne - hence the breaking strain of snatch straps...

I'd still like to hear an official rating on the "recovery point" on the front of the D3...

Hi Steve.

It really is a cool clip, and it does state that the chassis is rated for snatching up to 6 tonne. I did notice their "recovery points" are rated for 10 plus tonne, but I would not mind them a little smaller and less noticeable. Very Happy

On a different note, I was quoted $460 for the King Springs, and get this, it was quoted installed. This is for the heavy duty with 2" lift.

no recovery points were used in that demo, the lifting frames were bolted directly to the chassis
