Geoff. Massive thank-you to you and your family.
This forum is supported by some amazing people, yesterday we were returning from a road-trip to Normandy and the car had performed beautifully until we were heading up the M20!
I could hear a metal on metal horrible sound that I can't find the words to describe. I managed to get off the motorway and with the trusty Narpy torch had a good look around the front end and everything seemed OK.
By now it's getting late very dark, I am 200+ miles from home with wife and son in the car thinking S T!
I phoned Clive (CDS) off the forum and after much deliberation we had it down to either wheel bearing, Diff, or front drive shaft. His gut feeling was bearing and after much wheel kicking and driving manoeuvres I was still not sure.
Given I was in south Kent and knackered I gave Geoff. a ring to try and establish my options and see what I could do. He thought probably bearing and gave me his postcode and said go carefully and make my way to his house 60 miles away!
So I am trying to do 40mph on the nearside lane of the M20-M26-M25 and believe me it is more scary than doing 90 as I was getting mugged by every Polish lorry driver who had just come ashore in Dover.
I arrived at Geoff.'s house about an hour or so later by this time it's minus 1 and he appeared with appropriate clothing and a head torch and set about my car. I suspect the bearing was the one Land Rover had fitted in the factory and after much wizardry and about 45 minutes later we were good to go.
The whole time we were outside my family were indoors drinking coffee and playing with the dogs.
Geoff. you are a hero and once again many thanks.
