Oil, A1, A5 can they be mixed, but which way?? |
|
So a while back I bought oil on line from various sources, without looking in the depths of the garage!
I knew I bought Shell Helix Oil, but when getting both out for impending oil change I found they are different
One is Helix HX7 5-30 AF ACEA A1/B1
the other Helix Ultra 5-30 AF ACEA A5/B5
So do i use the whole 5 litres of Ultra and top the 1/2 litre needed with HX7 or the other way around, or should I find some more, another litre of A5 and A1?
Lesson leanred to look in the garage

If you have a DPF (something under the car, under the drivers side I believe??) you should use C3 ? ?
Otherwise if you are DPF free 8) then yeah I wouldn't worry about mixing them, or what I would do is buy 1 litre of either of them. Then you will have enough for 2 oil changes.
5.5l will put it about half way up the dip stick.

No DPF as MY09 on 58 plate, I think i will add the top up from 5 ltrs from the A1 bottle then less that 20% of the oil is the lower but acceptable A1 ACEA spec. Unless I can find an A5 1 litre bottle that is not 1/2 the price of 5ltrs
Cheers
