Heated seat confusion
Right so I bought a disco 4 which I love btw but a couple of weeks ago and already experiencing annoying electrical faults. So basically the passenger heated seat stopped working last week, after some playing around and replacing the small ecu for the seat it now only seems to heat up when the drivers seat is switched on. It also now seems that if I switch the car off with the heated seat on when I switch it back on again the heated seat comes on is this normal ? Girlfriend really feels the cold and I don't so apart from just putting up with it or getting a new gf which I really don't want to do as I just bought the car has anyone got any suggestions as intermittent faults like this drive me crazy thanks

Yh the rears work fine and the drivers side but I don't get why you can have the passenger side on with the lights on and then as soon as you put the drivers side on it starts working

So will the heated seat not come on if no one is actually putting weight on it ? Don't understand what the drivers side has to do with it

The most likely reason is you bought a drivers side controller and fitted it to the passenger seat.
As it uses seperate ecus but on a shared can system, the heater control unit sends out a request for the passenger seat heater to be on, but nothing responds, as you haven't got one fitted. When you request the drivers seat heater, the request sent out is fulfilled by 2 drivers seat heater ecus, thus both heat. 8)
To check this, do both seat heater ecus have the same part numbers, or different? If so, what are they?
Pm me you VIN and I'll check the part numbers for you.
In case anyone is wondering, D3's don't use this system, only D4's.
The seat will heat without being occupied.
HTH

Steve
