Rear Left Height sensor signal inverted

Trying to help a friend with a problem on recently purchased disco 3..
It had an error code for rear left height sensor signal out of range.. and was giving out a constant 4.69 volts regardless of position.. upon checking the sensor the wiring had been messed with and a new plug fitted.
After checking the wiring diagrams and pinouts it had been wired with the +5v and gnd wires the wrong way around.
After swapping the wires back to how they should be the sensor now works and the fault doesnt re-appear but the signal is inverted in relation to the other 3 sensors, and tells the ecu its going up when in reality its going down and vise versa. This is causing the suspension module to now stay stuck in extended mode with the front loads higher than the back.
If im right in thinking as these are hall effect sensors not a simple pot, inverting the +5v and gnd wont reverse the signal.
Is this just a case of a sensor gone bad? Or something more confusing..as the sensors dont seem to be able to be fitted to the wrong side its confused the hell out of me

Are the sensors handed? Ie left fitted to right hand side by mistake?

I did check that but theyre keyed by placement of bolt holes

Left side.......................Right side

If that makes sense...one thing i have thought is it may be a disco 4 sensor as ive noticed on ebay theres hundreds of disco 4 sensors available but nothing comes up for disco 3, they have the same housing and connector but use different part numbers and only list compatibility for their respective models. Have to check part number tomorrow and see if thats the case.

Always harder fixing a problem someone else has tried and given up than one that has been untouched

Could it be a front sensor that has been fitted? It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Anything is possible as he bought it with the fault..have to try and borrow another sensor off a working car
