New wheel bearings and all quiet now...

Have been suffering from a whining/droning noise from the front end for a while now which recently got much worse after a trip to the south of France at Easter. It started out only being apparent around 50mph and was quite subtle but developed into a drone from about 30mph upwards which was very obvious. Just had both front hub assemblies replaced and the noise is gone completely and all is quiet again. Original bearings had carried the weight of the Disco for 150K miles so cant't really complain...£300+VAT parts and labour at a local 4x4 specialist not bad I don't think...

(Interestingly there was not really any play in the front wheels with them off the ground but there was defiantly a roughness when rotated and a faint ticking noise too)

I remember when I first test drove my '05 D3 before I purchased it that on accelerating to speed on a dual carriageway, the noise of both front wheel bearings sounded so much like a jet engined aircraft taking off just slightly above us, that I looked out the windscreen and up in to the sky to see what was passing us.... wishful thinking I suppose, but ended up replacing both front wheel bearings and no more low flying aircraft...

Come to think of it - I'm not entirely sure why I followed through with the purchase!
