Coolant loss

I seem to be getting what appears to be coolant leaking from the tray under the gearbox after a run. I have removed the tray to investigate but cannot see anywhere obvious where it may be coming from. It has a definite hot coolant smell and I have noticed the level in the header tank is about 1" below the normal level. Are there any coolant / heater pipes in the area above the gearbox which may have sprung a leak?

I use talcum powder in a puffer bottle (DKP 2 for those that understand) to help chase leaks and highlight any damp patches.

Have a look at the pipe I identified on this thread:

http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic108777.html

Sounds similar but got far worse over a few days as pipe slit got bigger on pulley.
It was blowing out and fan throwing over engine BUT as hot it evaporated.

Main place I saw liquid was where you state.
I have another post somewhere which shows it as a video.

Worth checking as very hidden.

Might be worth checking anything in the valley between the heads for coolant leaks; there's a lot of cooling pipework and housings to leak there. Anything leaking in the valley will end-up down the back of the engine and into the undertray you mention, because of the installed angle of the powertrain.

Thanks everyone for the replies and pipe run diagram. I can now start following pipes and try to identify the problem

@Robbie - thanks for the visual, very helpful Smile I have a slow leak that is coming from where the pipes go through the firewall behind the engine, on the right when looking into the bonnet from the front.

A mate suggested this is where the air warmer radiator for the climate control sits - does anyone know if this might be true and if so where i might find a little more info on how to get in there to find out more? I'm hoping to do this fix on my own but seems like quite a tough job just to get to where the leak is happening.
