Engine number position on TDV6?
Stupid question, but as I'm trying to install an engine from a Ford Territory into my D3, I'm obviously going to have to go through the rigmarole of registering an engine number change with the State authority.
Problem is, on the block of my D3, the engine number is cast there on the left hand side as you are looking at it from the timing cover end. On the Ford engine, there is nothing visible in the same area, and all I can see is just the little metal tag on the right hand inlet manifold.
Does anyone know if the number casting position changed to somewhere really obscure on more recent blocks? (And I've had a good look over it, and my wife has as well)
I'm sure you can guess what I'm thinking otherwise....

The only engine number that I have been able to find on my July 2007, model year '08 Discovery is the one on the steel plate on the left hand rocker cover/inlet manifold.
Edit - Sorry just noticed you refer to looking at the engine from the front, from the front the plate is on the right hand side

Scratch that, after removing the dust and crud, the numbers cast into the block bear no resemblance to the engine number. So the only identifier is that metal tag attached to the inlet manifold.....
Ah well, that will save some beaurocracy.

The real engine number will either be deep stamped or in the case of the tdv6 engine should be laser etched....the number is always on a machined flat area specific for that purpose. The aluminium plate on top of the engine is the repeat number which is obviously easier to see...
On 99% of the ringers I've seen very rarely is the stamped or etched engine number changed. But the repeat plate quite often is....

As previous post, the engine serial number will be stamped or etched on a machined face on the cylinder block. Cast numbers are only for production purposes.

There's a flat, raised section, just above the line of the sump on both engines, and on both it is blank. Nothing etched, nothing stamped, nothing visible at all.
The Ford block is really clean, so it doesn't even have 9 years of crap covering it like the D3 did.
I'll try and take a picture in daylight tomorrow.

Yep, that's the area that is blank on both of the engines that I have.
And just above there is the cast production number as described above.

That's got me quite curious now. There are no signs that the engine has been out before on my MY2007 D3, so unlikely that a spare parts engine has been installed and not recorded
But to have two engines of the same type with no stamped number?
