Design of front hubs
Has anyone split a hub to examine the design and type of bearing(s) fitted?- I have tried but can't.
If the terrifically high torque setting on the hub retaining nut is being put on the bearing rollers/balls there's no wonder the bearings do not last!!
For example the tiny by comparison of a Ford Transit hub that is designed to carry weight just don't seem to have this re-acuring problem.
Most taper roller bearings fitted on other vehicle wheel hubs are torqued up much lower and then backed off 1/4 of turn Why is LR torque so high?It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

i think on the rear of the hub bearing there is a crush type spacer that preloads the bearing when its torqued up (thats what it looks like to me) could be wrong thoughplease excuse any grammer/punctuation mistakes,i'm thick, thankyou

Didn't LR reduce the torque figure for the bearings precisely because they failed so readily?Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

The torque settings on the front have dropped due to premature bearing failure.De-Tango
