Back to the drawing board..

After having issues with a noise form the front of my manual D3, which I convinced myself was the o/s wheel bearing, I finally got round to changing the hub. Fitted it and, to my 'delight' the noise is still there!! Up till now, the noise seemed to come from the osf, but now, as it seems to be worse, it's transmitting a vibration which seems to come up through the floor. I had thought front diff, but now thinking prop? Only odd thing is that the noise goes away if you turn/bear left, which seems to be unlikely to be the prop and more so the diff?? Not really got loads of money to throw at it, any ideas anyone?

One other thing I meant to ask; If the prop bearing is shot, am I right in assuming there will be excessive play in the prop/bearing?

United Kingdom 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 S Manual Cairns BlueDiscovery 3

had exactly the same a few weeks ago

turned out to be nsf wheel bearing even though the sound was under my feet when driving and I was convinced it was the o/s where the problem was

Jack up nsf and pull/push wheel from 12 oclock and 6 oclock to see if there is play and give it a spin to see if there is any noise

other areas I checked was props and driveshafts but in my case they were all tight and problem free

new hub/wheel bearing sorted it straight away hope yours is as simple

new hubs on the bay for £40 with 2 years warranty Thumbs Up

It would be just my luck that is the ns... I did try moving the wheels, but no play. I know there's not always any play in them... I'm assuming, that if I get under it and try moving the prop around,it'll be obvious if that's knackered!?
I fitted a Britpart hub on the os, from N&K in Fakenham, 2yearwarrenty, I know everyone says don't buy cheap ones, good enough for me!! Even firing it wasn't too bad!!
Just wish it had fixed it!!

The more I think of it, I'm thinkingi t might be the other bearing... The slightest turn to the left, it stops.....

Got round to fitting a NS bearing today and finally, it's sorted..!

Only fitted a cheapo Britpart one, so, based on everyone's opinion of them, I'll be replacing it next month!!
